The raw emotion of character rendering like this is hard to achieve. So, much kudos!! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>
That being said, what gets me about this picture are her eyes. They snag me in. The fact that her tears mix into the rain (but you can still tell they're tears) are done well. The critique is this. Her mane and the rain and even other little details (such as the rain's mist hitting her body) finish this piece...and I wish that same amount of detail went into her eyes. I feel they are too flat, or otherwise, not emphasized enough when they are the core emotion of this piece, especially as a close up. Sometimes it's hard to make eyes pop and look rounded (especially if you're improvising with adding details of MLP and other simple styles!) but if you peek around you'll find reference and tips for rounding out the eyes of a toony style. A wonderful example is any work by harwicks-art Even in low light/night time scenes the brightness and shaddowing of the eyes are exaggerated. Not to compare your work to theirs! I just wanted to offer an example of MLP style eyes! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
Aside from that, I agree with bcollins39302 that her mouth should have a weee bit more depth (as in her tongue, or seeing the inside of her opposite cheek).
Again though... I really love Pinkimena and I do set aside the fan art pieces of her I find that touch me the most and print them out for my room...I need to get in the habit of asking the artists if I'm even allowed to do that...so I'm asking now! May I print this out for my bedroom? If you still have the file to edit the eyes, ugh I would just be tickled...but either way I love this so much.
This piece is old, well before The Lion Guard. At the time I believed (based on only the movie, Simba's Pride) that her personality did not fit and she hadn't yet resolved whether or not she actually wanted to. Obviously since The Lion Guard Kiara has had character development and now that I think about it, she would make a good queen. I should update these deviant descriptions, huh?
