'Ascendance'

She was too far ahead of him,
her bare hips
flexing and flashing as she sprinted,
her long, full, black hair flying behind her
as she flew through the door and into the void.

He'd locked his heart in a sky-scraped headcase
which kept him vying for ways in
instead of prying his way out
while the crowd just wanted him to jump

"The ladder is not close, and not enough. A need for more than (poly)filler."

Chair lift
chair left
rubbed in
washed out
anybody home?

Holes and holes.
And cracks.

...two, three, four,
five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve,
thirteen,
fourteen,
fifteen,
sixteen,
seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one.......
  knock...knock...knock...knock...

    "Rapunzel, lass dein Haar herunter!"

a door untried is always locked.

    "I've been imprisoned by vertigo
and my feet are nailed to the ground in hate,
    as i stand in shame
    as anguish washes over me
for i look upon the bowed heads of women born into pain."
    - Rapunzel

and then;
the cracks
deemed more
accessible

The wall had a decidedly
nautical persuasion,
but he didn't have much time to reflect on all this
before a door was opened ahead of him
and he was pushed gently but firmly, into a room.
Then the door slammed behind him...

The doors opened and closed again at unpredictable times -
sometimes they were closed for days,
sometimes they opened four times in an hour,
but the sound heard when they opened was always the same
many symphonies and hundreds of songs sounding together.

The door to truth seems at first a simple thing,
but one tries to reach it and finds the road complicated with difficulty,
until at last you release your mind and fly.

Method

Each orifice may weep,
the heart begins to crack,
but the spirit holds fast.
The decent, the doors, the cracks,
they're all on show for you to see.

The key is to climb faster than the crack descends
so you can savour the perfect moment
when you stand before the open door.
Just a blink of an eye before everything comes crashing down.

four, three, two...

Last exit for the would-be birds;
skinny feet can cling to the cracks,
but only ghosts may come in again.

Rapunzel,
a door untried...

"well, you know, you always bolt the inside,
and while you say there is a path to get to you,
its always the damn cracks and holes I crawl through."

what happens
in the rusted cracks
settling in a bowl of silt
ossifying between two planes
of a grand dimension?

time
and space
for a purpose....

one-way ticket to anywhere but here.
The door locks behind you.

nineteen, twenty, twenty-one.......

..."oh the long crawl up to a final resting place -
    open the door, henry!"
    - Rapunzel

CLOSED

This Venue is Closed
and it is with the heaviest of heart that we ask all member artists to enjoy this small monument, taking a moment to walk through all the So Often Bled galleries with the communal spirit that kept this place going for so long while it lasted.

If you find something you really like here in the SOB archives, be sure to leave a comment on the creator's piece while you're FAVing it. Say "hi" to someone new and mention your time here as having been the cross-road. Wander through the old POLLs and let your mind ponder those weird provocations that might lead to something even weirder to think about. Visit SOB's affiliate groups and maybe check out the old Holiday features that could lean imagination towards your next year's inspirations.

'So-Often-Bed' is now at rest
but we hope
that the reason SOB was even created will live on.

'King' ~by Bark

Lancelot Price

Prufrock processed 01Etherised upon a table in a much-deserted street
being carved and spoken of by Michaelangelo
The cheap hotel we'd been in
the smog-stained yellow window glass
Back then there was a time
Back then was time for time
For being loved by sculptors
who would shape one's self to form
One form only to last forever
and end time
Fleshless form so hard and slippery
sliding quickly off the hotel terrace
cracking in a thousand fissures
sliding down the street
with only yellow smoke to hide in
yellow fog to grease the way
fleeing from Michaelangelo
escaping from his love
Reaching now the seashore
Paddling out beyond the surf line
Hairless arms so stiff and clumsy
Turning
Stroking
Standing
Catch a wave and
balancing
with broken limbs
Thrown off and falling
Ground down on shore to sand
to beach and bottom of the sea
rippling
Saved
china finea party
the pretty things
clinking together china fine
cups
shatter
like doll heads
porcelain
revealing inside
only fashion sense
and fine ambitions

He left when I was 23. I'd known him since I was 16 and he was 15. At the end, he knew I was gay. I don't know what he was. I didn't ask or discuss the matter of us at all. How could I have been so foolish?
At first I wasn't even attracted to him. But it wasn't long before we became best friends, surely the best of all possible relationships. We spent pretty much all our time outside of school together.  It wasn't until three years later that I knew I was in love. The first time. I didn't know how to act, what to do. It was a time and place of conformity, of unquestioned sins, of keeping your thoughts to yourself. There was a mix of joy and stress.
After high school, he went to the Navy. He had to go; I was able to avoid it. I was no soldier, even though as I was about to leave the examination place for the draft, an officer dangled the prospect of Officer Candidate School in front of me  because of my test score, which I knew was perfect. Someone Once Said...

It's the first group I've seen that is not dedicated to a fandom, a medium, a theme, conventional beauty or technically impressive art. In spite (or because?) of that, it still manages to have a strong identity. There are interesting, unusual stuff in the gallery. I find it inspiring.

Had he been a deviant rather than a degenerate, Max Ernst would have been an active member of this group.

Man, that guy had issues.
But then again, he may have had NONE...
between his art and his ever-changing life style,
it's possible he died a sane and perfectly adjusted human being.

Thanks, Chesya.
I saw that comment as a compliment to this place. :sun:

He's the only reason I have a favourite Artist. Normally there would be a largish pack with Titian, Van Gogh, Courbet, etc,etc so it wouldn't be worth singling out a superstar, but Max the Max just kept pulling out out stuff that just drills into the component parts of my half-completed Ikea wardrobe consciousness. *Thinking*....it might be the Ikea wardrobe that has the room I've been hallucinating about all along and the fact that it is incomplete the reason I cannot enter. I hallucinated this particular room long before I purchased my wardrobe - but you know what  space-time is like.

Right. I have to agree with your feelings on Max.
I'll be paying more attention to him in the near future.

I had a few years of taking a turn that wasn't possible to make
in my mother's second home.

I knew the layout of the house with my eyes closed and the damn thing was so small to begin with.
Yet, every time I came to the end of the hallway, instead of going straight (into the west bedroom)
or going right (into the north bedroom),
I'd take this diagonal left without thinking and bang face-or-foot-first directly into the corner.

I brought this to the attention of a friend of mine and he said he was pretty sure I was subconsciously picking up
energy-outlines(?) from the house that was built before it.

Not sure I agree with that, but it makes sense because I never thought about (or felt the presence) of the room until
by distraction, I'd bang into the wall again.
The one time I COULD "feel" an extra room was in the house I grew up in.
The dreams I had always featured an ability to access the room from a particular closet.
From the time I could walk til the time I left home,
I never stopped checking for a secret panel, thinking
THIS time, I'll find it! :lmao:
