Saw this in my inbox and was all like "oh my days GREEN LIGHTSABER GLOW"

He looks so thoughtful and intense...and his eyebrows are very elegant. :B

Hahaha, thank you <3 just trying different colour combinations for glazing. It's endless experimentation!

If he didn't mind I might post the original photograph. I tried to do it justice :P

I love the almost metallic appearance of this picture, the oil-in-a-puddle colours. My first instinct when I saw it was to reach out and touch the picture, feel the texture of the paint. Gorgeousness :)

Yes, it's the result of using stand linseed oil, makes it very shiny :)

The eyes came about quite naturally in this case, sometimes I struggle to get the right emotional pitch. Worked out great here :)

Ayup, that's the one. I think it's because of the facial expression/mood and because of the colors. :v

I think it's the first time I painted him not digitally WITH actual eyes. Always used him as references for guys with either no eyes or hooded eyes.

I really love the luminous quality of his skin, and the life in his eyes. It's really impressive for quite a stylised piece that he looks so human and relate-able, I think.

I find great pleasure in using unconventional colours for painting people, while trying to get them looking life-like without treading too far into realism. It's all a juggling act! :giggle:

I truly admire your skill... this is a piece which will take more glances and thinking to be digested properly. Mesmerizing and unsettling somewhat. As if he was asking the viewer many question, or perhaps just one, but yet I cant be sure. Neither about the amount of question or what those ask.

And there goes my mind scattering in too many directions

Thanks for sharing. This is a qualitative work.

It all comes from a truly stunning photograph he took of himself. Without that as reference I wouldn't even know where to start. It's such a great photo that I had to try my hand at transforming it into a painting. He just has a great face, and piercing eyes :giggle:

Gorgeous media handling; the strength of character inherent in the subject is suggested by both the composition and technique employed; great to see portraiture that looks deeper than mere depth of field to suggest the soul beneath the surface...

I love portraiture, it's probably the most challenging of subjects, be it any media.

Thank you for aiding in the process, Sam!

An excellent study of your husband. It displays a great representation of his constant ponderous look, always seeking inspiration and always lost in his own thoughts. Nice work.
