Snowfall's Sphere Painter 1.10 (for Blender 3D)

This is the sphere painter i use to paint my planets with in Blender 3D.

I figured i should share it, because i mean why not. i made it simple and all set up for anyone to use.

############################################################################

Installing and Using:
The first thing you must do is download and install Blender 3D. don't worry, its FREE! www.blender.org/download/
Once you are done that. Come back here and download this sphere painter .zip and extract it somewhere. then just dubble click on the .blend file and it should open up in blender right away. all set up. now you can paint your heart out! lol

The basics of blender 3D:
I won't go into much detail into how to actually use this part of blender. its really easy, just middle click to look around the 3D sphere, and use your scroll wheel to zoom in. it is the same with the 2D view. left click to paint on the sphere. (make sure it is set to "Texture paint" mode below) It shows All the brush options on the left side i am sure you can figure that out, just read the options and set them to what you like and try new things to see what they do. If you get stuck or don't know what to do. you can always re download this file. or look for tutorials online. there are a lot of tutorials for blender 3D don't worry! or you can just ask me.

Custom brushes:
I have included an example brush you can use to paint planets or whatever. if you make more brushes, make sure the brush file is white and colourless over a transparent background. its real easy. i use GIMP to make my brushes.

North and South Poles note:
Be careful near the north and south poles of the sphere. if you paint them from to far it will make a strange glitch on your texture. you can always use the clone brush to clean them up. this can be prevented by zooming in closer to paint them.

Tablet Users Note:

Blender has tablet support if you want to use the sensitivity of a drawing tablet. (though you may lose sensitivity if you alt+tab to another window. its annoying i know. to fix this either restart blender. Or make a new blender view window and tap your pen in it and go back to the painting window.

Thanks, it's a nice tool! :) (Smile)

But I found small errors when creating an 8K texture (not paying attention to the holes at the poles):

Can they be fixed not manually?

Yeah sadly this is just an issue ive had to just deal with, i simply clean them out in GIMP, as if nothing ever happened ^^ it is near the poles anyway, so you never notice on the sphere.

Thanks, I am correcting in a similar way. Maybe I'll post a few new textures soon. ;) (Wink)

Awesome! it is nice to see this Getting some to use = D
also, i appear to have found a way to fix the poles problem.
in blenders user preferences, and i just turn off Mipmaps under the Systems tab. it may be a bit pixleated, but it works for me so far when painting near polar areas.

Oh, how cool that you have a setup like this. And for sharing it. I made a couple of my own .blend files where I can make them into different map projections, but I'll have to try this out!

thanks no problem = ) and ooh cool id love to see those too hehe. i always wanted to play with other map projection types but never got around to it.

I thought about releasing them some day, though I'd have to fix them up some. All it is is a sphere with different shape keys and different UV map projections. I have equirectangular, oval projection, and eve one I made up myself. =D

ok cool = ) i wouldn't know how to project much in any other way then cylindrical and maybe cubic. the rest would be tricky and more eyeballing for me

Yeah, it can be tricky. Scaling, using the warp tool and etc...

Ok I think I have to try this one out :) Honestly, I hate Blender because it's not handy. I use it for things I other programs can't do. Maybe your tool makes the difference ;) I'll try this for my Iapetus bumpmap when I have my Celestia project finished...
