Animals in snow and ice
If there is an animal in your picture, surrounded by snow and/or ice, it belongs here.
Rime/hoar frost and frost patterns occur, when air moisture freezes on a surface. Rime/hoar frost can cover a window, a twig or a whole tree, a flower... You can submit whole large objects covered in frost. Extreme closeups (macro) should still go into "snow and ice crystal macros".
Ice and icicles
For frozen lakes and water barrels, glaciers and for icicles. Melting icicles are welcome too, but please let a noticeable amount of unmelted ice be in the picture. People ice skating are welcome here too, as longs as the ice takes up as much of the picture as possible, otherwise it also belongs in "snow as background, underground, playground". Hail also belongs in here.
This is sort of a "misc" folder. You can submit pictures that you can't see fit in any other folder. A snow covered fence or car for example, or a snow covered view that has a larger manmade object in it - but the main focus of the image will still have to be snow! Also, shots of plants that are not covered in snow but stand against a snowy background/landscape belongs here.
-A picture of a face, with white blurred snow in the background, or a manmade object fully visible (toys, jewelry etc) were snow is only a background, would not fit here, those belong on "snow as background, underground, playground.
Snow and ice crystal macros
For macro images - extreme closeups - of crystals and snow flakes, were you can really see the ultra structure of how the water froze.
Snow as background, underground, playground
This folder is for all pictures were snow is not the main subject or of minor interest. Ice/snow sculptures and winter sports will be found here too, as well as portrait photography, manmade objects lying in the snow and such. If the object is covered in snow with only parts visible, it belongs in "snow".
Pictures of natural landscapes covered in snow belong here. One or a few manmade objects are ok, like a fence or a small cottage far away in the background, but they can not be the main focus of the picture.
-A photograph of a roof covered in snow is not a landscape photograph. Photography of urban and city sceneries does not belong here. Such photos belong in "snow as background, underground, playground".
