People need to realize that in the Pokemon Anime if someone wins the Pokemon League, they do not become the Region Champion. The Pokemon League in the games may be to crown a new champion, but in the Anime it's literally just a tournament with a victor.

If Ash wins the kalos league then it might go to back up the fact Ash and co. only visit Alola for 'vacation'. Which takes place in the Volcanion, Magearna movie. If so, then its possible the Alola series will star a new character since the new manga has changed its continuous role of using the games protagonists. Then the Ash image seen on the leaked starter concept art, could be termed as just a placeholder. Not any serious image, but just for fun. These points COULD be possible.

Well Ash loses unfortunately.
I feel like Ash may take a "vacation" to the Alola Region but either discover's the Island Challenge and want to take part in it or goes there to take part in it. Regardless, I'm still pretty bummed that this hyped up battle ended like the other Leagues. My problem with the Pokemon Anime is that in going for so long, character development can be really awful. If the XY and XYZ were it's own standalone series, then it would have had great development, but now it's assumed that Ash will go to Alola with only Pikachu. It's upsetting to think about his Greninja which he has a huge bond with getting sent back to the lab :/

The funny thing is I've watched only 5 episodes of the XY/XYZ anime, yet I hear about it so much that I know what's happened

Same. They hyped up that final battle so much, especially that giant orange water shuriken thingy. Also Greninja is my favourite Pokemon, so that makes me even more salty (HOW DID A GRENINJA NOT DEFEAT A CHARIZARD?!??)
But yeah I agree, if Ash just leaves Greninja behind that would be so dumb. I mean, they worked really hard to finally be able to go synchro and make use of their full power, but then all that would go to waste! But if Ash did go to Alola, I don't think he would take Greninja. So maybe there will be a new cast of protagonists?

It's really questionable as to what will happen next. If he does go to Alola without Greninja, I sure hope the writers come up with a genuinely good reason to send him off.

The victor of the Pokemon League is called "The League Champion" though. From there, they move on to the Champion League, which is challenging the Elite Four and Champion. If Ash were to actually win a League, his journey isn't over. He still would have a long way to go.

Regardless, I'm fairly certain the XYZ story arc will end with Ash defeating Lysandre and Alain in the climax of the Flare Arc, with Ash being crowned an "honorary" Kalos Champion for helping defend the region in their time of crisis, similar to the parade scene in X/Y after you defeat Diantha.

You know, I somehow did not know that. That's actually really interesting and makes sense lol

And yes, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how the XYZ story arc ended either. I am excited for what comes next in this Flare Arc

Yeah, lol. It's also worth noting that he likely would have defeated Diantha when they battled had he not passed out...

Agreed!

I truly hope that XYZ finds some way to redeem Ash's loss to Alain. I was truly hoping for XYZ to break the repetitive cycle the anime has been going since its inception. I guess if anything, the matches this time around were brilliantly animated.

He'll win against Lysandre and then battle Alain again in the climax and win. There's his "redemption" for the loss. Then he'll be crowned an honorary champion because of his bravery for defending the region in their crisis, akin to the Parade Scene from XY.
