I haven't really talked much about Pokemon Switch, but here are my 3 things to say:

1. People have mentioned and "leaked" (pfft yeah no) the games simplifying the battle system. There's pros and cons to this. The new system could of course be fun and enjoyable, and depending on whatever system it is, it could attract people who don't like RPGs or people who just aren't a fan of the battle formula of Pokemon. However, the difficult part is that doing that in the 8th generation of Pokemon would be a kick to the nuts almost. Many people love this formula and there is a huge competitive Pokemon community. Simplifying the formula to something brand new would be awful to those who love that formula. I truthfully don't see them making any changes that are that drastic.

2. People think it will launch in 2018. I don't think it will. I know know nothing though so it very well could, but I just have a feeling it won't. This is the largest leap GameFreak has every made with a main series game. Resolution alone they're going from 240p to 720p at the least (although I think people expect 1080p out of a second party like GameFreak). I believe that even if they're near the end of the development of this game they will still want to do a lot of bug testing and additions but what do I know. Now I do see how this could still happen in 2018. They have most likely been developing this game since some point shortly after Sun and Moon. GameFreak's younger staff were the ones primarily working on Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, so it's assumed the veterans have been working on the Switch title. HERE'S THE KICKER THOUGH: Sun and Moon took about 3 years to develop, starting almost right after ORAS was completed. Super Mario Odyssey took about 3-3.5 years to develop. I expect these Switch games to take longer than something like Sun and Moon because in addition to all the normal things such as area research, Pokemon designing, etc, the team also has to develop for an HD console. There's also a lot more to consider because the games are no long on a duel screen system. I see this game taking at least 3.5 years to develop fully, and even if the game started development a year before Sun and Moon released in November 2015, that would mean it would be at the earliest early 2019 to release. I'm expecting a return to summer releases though with a summer 2019 release or later.

3. And finally... I don't believe any of these terrible leaks. GameFreak is really good at keeping their secrets, at least until development is pretty much complete. And it definitely isn't complete just yet, so... I have my doubts on all these terrible leaks.

We'll see though!

Given the fact that Nintendo is ramping up Switch production like crazy this year, I think they're pressuring GameFreak to release it for the 2018 Holiday Season, because core-series Pokemon Games always sell well. The 3DS wasn't that big until they moved to it exclusively for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, in which case the Nintendo DS formally died and the era of the 3DS began. So I kind of think they're trying to do the same thing with Gen 8 and start moving the 3DS out in favor of the Switch. And if they are doing that, then I'm afraid they're going to sacrifice quality in favor of a rushed game purely for sales, and it's going to be lackluster; an unfortunate blemish on Pokemon's identity, essentially. Because it could very well flop. So I agree, they need to take their time. I'm not expecting a release until after 2019, but I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of this month, they make a big announcement for release in November. :\

As for the battle system, I wouldn't put it past them to make such a drastic change. I just don't understand how they'd do it, because I see it as being too similar to Pokken's format of just straight combat, and type effectiveness would effectively be null and void (yes, let's Dynamic Punch a Gengar, Machamp! That totally makes sense!).

The fake leaks haven't been bad, they've just been off putting. Like seriously, I was in love with Marix20's Grass Starter. Loooooved it.

I could not agree with everything you have to say more my friend! I do think Nintendo may be pressuring GameFreak into having a 2018 release, but I do think and hope that it will ultimately be a 2019 release, possibly a spring release at the earliest, and if they ever wanted to return to a winter release, they could do so with the following game(s). I want quality games, not rushed games.

And I absolutely do not see the battle system changing either.

The leaks are not bad, at least the visual ones, but if I see one more rumor or text leak, haha ... I'll do nothing, but those are pretty bad most of the time. Although I do not expect any Pokemon being leaked until (or hopefully not at all because I think leaks are an atrocity) after the game is actually announced.

I personally see a late spring release to kick of the summer with Pokemon. And unlike more recent game reveals, because this is really being embraced by Nintendo, I think they'll want the reveal to happen at E3. If they spring release date were correct, then there could be about a year of trailers and whatnot before release. Of course I would definitely see a long dry-spell of news after the reveal, but I could definitely see some things being revealed. The game is at least close to being done, so they could show off some Pokemon and whatnot.

I think its definitely not a 2018 release. Every new generation of pokemon has debuted at least 3 yrs after the previous gen. (red/blue '96, gold/silver '99, ruby/sapphire '02, d/p '06, b/w '10, x/y '13, sun/moon '16.) SO if we are getting a next gen, my bet is Nov. 2019. HOWEVER we are long overdue for a diamond pearl remake! Kinda fitting if it were the first pokemon game on the switch, as it was the first pokemon game on the DS!

I agree. It would be too soon to release it in 2018. Now I do see what those in favor of it are trying to say. They think Nintendo is trying to speed GameFreak through development for a 2018 release to push Switch sales, but I doubt it. I see an E3 reveal absolutely, and I think that alone will excite people to buy the console, in addition to other games.

The soonest I see is Spring 2019. I don't see a Gen 4 remake though. No generation would ever start off with a remake, especially the highly anticipated Pokemon Switch. However, I do believe, and really want, the following game(s) to be Diamond and Pearl (or I would prefer Platinum) remakes for a 2020 or later release.

I truly hope that they don't deviate from the traditional formula - at least, not too much. The main appeal to Pokemon for me has always been about strategizing, not necessarily execution of commands. With how expansive Pokemon attacks, abilities, and general feel are currently, it's hard to imagine them transforming such a huge medium into something that simplifies every aspect of the game. I'd much rather GameFreak changes how we interact with the overworld as opposed to altering the battle system, but I'll try to keep an open mind if they do such.

I don't think they will. I think it's safe to say. Yes, it could open the games up to non-rpg/turn-based fans, but the turn-based formula is a staple and too many people would be upset if they did so. I certainly would.

They will never, EVER change up the turn-based, battle system. I don’t know where that bizarre rumour came from..! The Pokemon extended community get so bizarre and rabid before new games come out now

You say that now, and I guarantee you now that you've said it, the rumors are going to be true and you're gonna look back on this and laugh at yourself in the future. xDDDDDD

But seriously, don't put it past GameFreak to make some big changes like this. Anything is possible, tbh.

I’m happy to admit I’m wrong if it comes true... but I don’t think they’ll change the most fundamental game mechanic any time soon ;-) (jinxes self)
