GameFreak seems to be going the route of showing barely an information for Ultra Sun and Moon. We'll have to see how much they actually show before launch, but so far, I'm really unimpressed

Agree, but like I'm playing it using FreeShop anyways. I would pay for games normally but any that I feel are not worth buying. I download for free

I agree, not impressed.
Showing no information when it is a new gen, perfect, keep us surprised.
Showing no information on what looks like the same game again one year later, terrible idea.

I think there's a perfect amount of information they can show off, enough to excite us but not enough to show everything. ORAS showed off way too much. If they could at least tease something interesting about the story to get people excited could be good.

That's what I am waiting for. I want to know how the game is different, and I'm still waiting for it. Until I hear that it will be very different I probably won't be in a rush to get it

I do too, but I think they need to do a better job with revealing information about the game.

People complain when GF gives out "too much news", people complain when there is too little. What's GF going to do?

I've seen that comment a lot, and I can definitely see the point. I think I may have to play through this game to see exactly how much new content we'll see. I suppose we still do have three months to get more news. My problem is not necessarily the amount of news we get but more of the amount of "build-up" or excitement we get. I know excitement can be biased, but in my and many others' opinions, they haven't given us a lot to be excited about. I don't mind them not revealing any new Alolan forms or anything else assuming we do get a few more, in fact I would rather be pleasantly surprised to see new ones in general when I play the game.

GF, to me at least, has not given me much to be truly excited about with this game. Many people wanted to see a sequel that built off of Sun and Moon's interesting story, but rather, it looks like we are getting and alternate story, one that takes the place of Sun and Moon, possibly in an alternate universe as described in ORAS, and with a story that is a cross between a third version and the sequels, Black 2 and White 2. Basically, I expect a story that is more different than any other third version but less different than actual sequels like B2W2.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing. But many like myself would have preferred a sequel if we did return to Alola. But they could still peak my interest by teasing something interesting. A new island? Teasing Ultra Beasts' roles? But unfortunately we've gotten nothing really.

With new main series games, I believe there is a golden area of revealed information. For brand new games like X and Y and Sun and Moon, I think both went a little too far with the Pokemon reveals, but otherwise they did well with revealing just enough story details. ORAS revealed all of its Mega Evolutions prior to release, and their story was also fairly known as they were remakes with very similar stories. I feel that USUM's golden area would be if they teased without truly spoiling some bit of information about the story. Perhaps if they teased Ultra Beasts or something we may not expect. Maybe not full on revealing it and spoiling something but just a little more story detail to get us really excited. I thought the Ultra Beast website on Pkmn Japan's website covering mysterious occurrences throughout all the games was going to tie into the games, and that actually did excite me a lot. Unfortunately, it wasn't part of USUM at all.

Of all the games I play, Pokemon seems to have the developer with the least where-with-all about anything that is not "make a game for a casual audience: The competitive scene is stale, they have no idea how to hype the game for returning players, they never made the games rewardingly difficult until last game... idk for being the devs behind one of he biggest phenomenons of the century, they really don't take feedback or improve... they are always inside their own bubble as to what to do with the games.

You bring up very good points. I do agree with most of what your saying. But as I have already mentioned GF doesn't have the best common sense for what position they are in. Either that or they are drunk on the casual gamer sellout money.

That is true, they are inside their own bubble for the most part.

While I can't excuse my current feelings toward this game, I can somewhat forgive them for this, regardless of how it turns out because they are currently developing the Switch Pokemon Game(s), which is an immense task.

Yeah I know, but I don't expect to hear more about it until USUM have been released. And even then maybe not for a bit.

I'd like for them to not show much information normally, but because this looks like a sequel/alternate story or whatever this actually is I don't think they should be holding back so much on details.

We got Sun/Moon last year, and one year later it looks like we are getting Sun/Moon again. I'd like to see what is different this time around.

They should've held back on information in the lead up to Sun and Moon, not this game. I don't know what they're doing at this point haha

IMO that's a bit too nitpicky to say. GF is a company that usually doesn't listen to it's community whatsoever. Even then it took advice from raging players in the last hype season and dialed it down (maybe too much, but idk). You can't fault them if they are getting mixed signals. They can't be savvy to everyone wishes and fulfill them. And who knows, maybe they are hiding something special that they can't spoil in any way. But don't hold me to that.

Well I hope they have something new and exciting to share! We haven't really seen anything new in terms of gameplay in my opinion. There's a new Lycanroc form, a new exclusive Z-Move, a photo thing and a new map. I mean....eh? Nothing is grabbing my attention yet. I'm worried that the story and the way we progress through the game won't be much different.

At this current time I think I will be waiting to purchase it though, see what the reviews say and if the game is really different or not. If not...meh, might pass on it.

I don't think it will be a flop necessarily, because whether we like it or not, many, including myself, will probably still go buy the game. However, Sun and Moon have sold 15 million, the fifth most popular of the franchise if I'm correct, although it is not an old game yet so it will continue to sell. I still expect USUM to sell well, but I believe they will be very significantly lower in sales.

I kinda wish they did announce some more stuff too. Today would have been especially clever to announce stuff because of the eclipse and the games being celestial themed.

I feel like everywhere I look, people are constantly expressing disappointment towards US/UM. I don't really understand why -  it's not as though this third version formula is new. I've even seen a ton of people complain about Sun and Moon due to the upcoming US/UM. As far as I'm concerned, this is probably going to be the prototypical remixed adventure, such as Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum - with new additions and changed elements to the story. Considering how practically all of the third version games had been praised by fans in years prior, I'm not understanding the backlash many people are giving Game Freak.

I remember when ORAS was coming out, Game Freak revealed every new Mega Evolution and practically all new additions prior to the release - which left many fans upset at the final product. I can see this trying to correct those mistakes from ORAS.

^^; What a late reply on my part. My bad

But I definitely see your point, but there are reasons why people are disappointed. The third version formula is not at all new, but the last time we had an actual third version game was Platinum, which came out over eight years ago. Since then, GameFreak has been throwing some curve balls, giving us sequels to Black and White as opposed to the expected "Pokemon Gray," ending both Gen 5 and Gen 6 after the second game rather than adding a third version/remake in either generation, especially when people expected a Z or XY sequel in Gen 6. People have just been expecting something more interesting than another third version at this point.
That's not the only reason though. There are a couple others. One is that Sun and Moon left a lot of questions and interesting plot points that people hoped to be expanded upon, but it doesn't look like that will happen because the games aren't sequels. Also, there's the Switch. We know a Switch main series titles are being developed, but the Switch is here and this is the second generation on the 3DS, and we're getting a third version game. With Platinum, it was only the second title on the 3DS, so I don't believe many minded that it was a third version game, plus people expected that because not many curve balls had been thrown yet. I believe if Pokemon Gray happened instead of B2W2, although people wouldn't have had anything to compare it to, they still would feel similar because the 3DS was out and people were waiting for a 3DS Pokemon game but they were just getting a third version.

I do believe GF has learned their lesson with revealing too much and that's good, and they have revealed a little more being Mantine surfing, new Ultra Beasts, and potential new villains. This is almost ideal for me. I'm hoping there's new Alolan forms but I don't want them to be revealed if so. I think they just need that golden spot where they reveal enough to make people excited and see differences between USUM and SM but not reveal everything like ORAS.

Haha, it's no problem!

I suppose it has been a while since Platinum came out, but there has really only been one instance of deviation (B2/W2), and then just not having a sequel version in 6th gen. I don't know if this would really be enough to raise expectations significantly - and since we're still unsure of just how drastic the story will be changed in US/UM, I feel it's an unfair comparison.

As for the Switch not having a Pokemon title yet, the only people who should have honestly gotten upset are those who are truly unaware of how Game Freak spaces out intervals for their generations. Considering Gen 7 was only a few months old at the time the Switch released, expecting the next title (within the same generation) would come out on the Switch is somewhat ridiculous to me. Would it have been awesome? Sure - but from a marketing standpoint, it doesn't make much sense. There was more to capitalize on the 3DS than the Switch, and keeping generational titles (not counting spin-offs) within the same console is important, in my opinion.

I'm honestly really pumped about the new Ultra Beasts and Mantine Surfing. Never before has GF released new Pokemon mid-generation, not counting form changes, so that's a big step in and of itself. And Mantine surfing just looks gnarly and radical, dude. I can always appreciate mechanics that help to flesh out older mechanics. I truly hope for more Alolan forms as well, but any new Pokemon concepts will do. I agree though - somewhere in between S/M and US/UM in terms of announcements would probably work best.

I kinda find it for the better. It's helps support the idea of exploring for yourself rather then play something where you know everything before you play. though I hope next term they attempt a balance (like maybe only show 30% if the game or most of the beginning only).

I do believe there's a golden area of the revealing of information before a Pokemon Game's release. In the case of these "third versions," I think they do need to show just a little more, something that people could get really excited for this game for. Maybe even teasing new Alolan forms without revealing a single new one.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I think the new Alolan form thing being acknowledged without showing new ones shown would be a nice compromise.

It's not like it's a whole new generation or anything, you shouldn't be expecting a massive new game. It's just gonna be like Emerald and Platinum and stuff.

^^; What a late reply on my part.

I'm expecting the same, but unfortunately, many, including myself, have kind of been spoiled with some of the more recent games. It's been 8 years since the last "third version" game, as Black and White 2 were a brand new story and ORAS was a remake. I just feel that we were all expecting a story that was at least more different like B2W2's, but it looks like that could still slightly happen.
