I don't like talking about war, especially not World War II. I was born and raised in Switzerland, but my mother came from Germany, so I'm still half German.
I carry a trauma inherited from my German grandmother. During trauma therapy I've been told that a trauma can last up to 5 generations. My trauma showed via nightmares that felt like real life memories, except they didn't belong to me. Memories about running away, cities getting destroyed by bombs, seeing loved ones die, getting raped and watch others get raped, shit like that. My grandmother wasn't Jewish nor a Nazi, just an innocent woman running for her life as Russian soldiers arrived.
Now, I noticed that it's easy to consider Germany to be the bad guy country because of its history. Luckily, it also seems a country that learned the most from it compared to other countries and their history, and tries the hardest to not let anyone forget.
