This is a starter milestone for new players who don't have a Snapjaw yet.

Rules for this Milestone

  • You must be an FTO to do this milestone
  • If doing visual art then each step must depict the main character as a fullbody (80%) and must have a background with depth (a discernible Foreground, Midground, and Background)
  • If writing, you must write at least 500 words per step. If there are multiple steps, multiply the number of steps by 50 for a minimum word count
  • All steps must be submitted together and should be recognizable or titled to the prompt
  • Add entries to this folder
  • Submit all steps to this comment chain

Reply to this comment chain to start the milestone.
Parent Snapjaw NPC's will be rolled for you to base your Snapjaw on and to use for this milestone and story purposes.

You must use at least one of the colours from the assigned palettes for your parent Snapjaws

You may use any colours (and mix them) from the parent Snapjaws and choose any 2 traits to pass on to your MYO Snapjaw

BEFORE STARTING THE STEPS, MAKE SURE YOUR SNAP DESIGN IS APPROVED FIRST!
You can do this by replying to your snaps parent information! BE AWARE THIS WILL GO ON THE MASTERLIST, IF YOU WANT AN ADULT VERSION ON THE ML, PLEASE SEND THAT IN FOR APPROVAL

Steps

1) New Treasure

Your two Snapjaw parents have found a beloved gift in their den, a Snapjaw egg. Depict your Snapjaw parents stumbling upon this treasure in their den (only one parent needs to be fullbody (80%)).

2) Nurturing

Snapjaw's are very protective of their eggs and are constantly caring for them to ensure there aren't any threats. Portray your Jawling's parents protecting or nurturing their egg (only one parent needs to be fullbody (80%)).

3) Hatching Day

Eventually there comes a day when a Jawling must emerge into the outside world. Show your Jawling, hatching from the egg in its den.

4) First Breath

Your Jawling has finally hatched from its egg. Depict your Jawling's toddler design (this will be based on the parents rolled for you prior to beginning the milestone) as they come into the world.
This step does not have to fully show your Jawling as long as it's the egg that is covering portions of the design.

5) Bonding

Snapjaws are normally very close when it comes to family, it is something they treasure in life. Portray your Jawling's parents caring for the Jawling.
This can be in the den or the general community that your Snapjaw is from

6) Growth

Snapjaws must learn a few essential skills in order to aid the community and survive in the Valley. Portray you Jawling practicing an essential skill.
This can be:
  • Hunting
  • Fire Breathing
  • Combat
  • And more!

7) Adulthood

Your Jawling's time has come for them to emerge as an individual in their community! Depict your Jawling as an adult Snapjaw with a full design, ready to join the Valley community.

Reward

1x Snapjaw (can be a standard jaw, or one of the subtypes this will be rolled)
You are now the owner of your very own Snapjaw! You can now make your way into participating in the ARPG, good luck and have fun!

Snapjaw Lore

8 min read
This is still a wip things are subject to change

Welcome to Lorus, a rock based planet fueled by the mana which courses throughout the planet and its subjects. In the past Snapjaws were hunted to near extinction by two other intelligent species of Lorus. To ensure the survival of what they had left, the Snapjaws ran from the place they call home. The long journey resulted in many more fallen. However, their journey was not in vain. They discovered two great mountains, joined together as one. A Valley which lay between. This was their new home, a place later named Snapjaw Valley.

Snapjaws are the most common type found on Lorus. They are born from eggs made of thin rock, making them easy prey before hatched. A young snapjaw has two egg teeth that stay with them as they grow older. These teeth are primarily for chewing their food while their fangs are more likely to be used in fighting. Snapjaws have opposable ears, and fire glands on the side of their necks. The colour of the fire glands is also the colour of their fire, eyes, ears and blood otherwise known as mana. As they breathe fire the liquid in these glands will decrease until they can no longer do so.

Skyjaws are the flying counterpart to Snapjaws. Their eggs tend to be thicker due to Skyjaws living near the mountain peaks. It provides a barrier of protection to any minor mishaps such as a small fall and it keeps the egg just a bit warmer in their colder climate. Skyjaw's will dig burrows to house their eggs in and they will nest over them to keep them warm. They get along with their counterparts and often visit their regions to mingle. Their wings are made of a strong leather-like substance, but can also be made of feathers. Skyjaw's live in the highest peaks of the Valley known as Norendel Heights. There is always a blanket of snow covering the peaks, making it the coldest part of the Valley. Their large paws allow them to better grip the hazardous terrain and their fire glans are located along the inner side of their wings. Only Skyjaw's can live in Norendel indefinitely without the use of other items due to their thick coat of fur which keeps them warm.

Seajaws are found in the river that goes throughout the valley. The majority of them can be found under the valley, through tunnels that lead to a large underground pool. They are strong swimmers and can easily make their way back upstream compared to other types of Snapjaws. Seajaw eggs are the softest kind of eggs in the snapjaw species due to the erosion of water currents. They highly rely on the currents to "hatch" their eggs, but given enough time a Seajaw can break out using it's egg teeth. They are the most communal type of Snapjaw due to this. Though parent's will often reunite with their young based on the scent of the egg remnants, it is more common that the Sealing will be cared for by the whole community.

Hunterjaws are the fastest sub species of Snapjaws and also the quietest. Since they are light on their foot, they can easily catch prey and rarely miss. They're large legs allow them to propel themselves forward, it also provides more balance for higher speeds. They live in a grove, surrounded by a large forest which is adjacent to the Valley. There is very little light in the forest, as the leaves block most of it out.

Mating - Snapjaws mate through combining their energies together. There are no breeding restrictions on Snapjaws, as they are a genderless species, though pronouns are used as a social construct. First a Snapjaw will attempt to impress its chosen mate, whether its through a display of breathing fire or by bringing the mate an impressive gift of sorts. The two then remain together for as long as they live, it is very rare for them to break up. To make a clutch of eggs the Snapjaws press their foreheads together (It will only work if both parties have given consent) and as their heads start to glow, a clutch will form between them. Clutches contain about 3-4 eggs however it is possible to have less or a little more than that.

Food - Snapjaws are omnivores. They will consume crystals mainly as crystals are the main source of food on Lorus, but under extreme conditions they will eat other smaller creatures.

Society - Snapjaws live in communities and are not afraid to mingle. They are very docile creatures and will only fight when forced to.

Locations -

Dravis Valley (The Valley) - It is the most well known area located in The Valley. The Valley is a fairly large open space with sparse vegetation. There are pools of water linked to tunnels which lead to Krakemar and large paths carved through the mountainous walls leading to Norendel. To the west, at a slightly lower elevation, the canopy of the Whispering Woods can be found along with a calm waterfall right at boundary of The Valley and the Whispering Woods. While most Snapjaws come to The Valley to conduct their business and interact with their society, it is mostly home to the standard Snapjaw subtype. The mountains which embrace the Valley are bridged by a large path of rock overhead, on the left mountainside a rocky overhang can also be found. To the eastern entrance, more vegetation grows and just beyond it there is a smaller forest.

Norendel Heights - Up on the peaks of The Valley, the Skyjaws state their territory. Naturally, with the elevation increase the land becomes colder. There is a constant mist of snow being blown around by powerful gusts of wind. Though the mountain peaks make this area very rocky, there are many scattered areas of flat land in Norendel. The Sky Bridge that connects both Mountain peaks has allowed for two tribes of Skyjaws to coexist with each other.

Krakemar - Right below The Valley, the realm of the Seajaws lay. Its a large cavern filled nearly to the brim with water, only a small space near the cavern ceiling is left untouched. Only illuminated by the light of large crystals known as Lantern crystals, Krakemar is otherwise an extremely dark area which is hard to navigate. In many different areas of Krakemar there are long water filled tunnels which lead to both The Valley and Norendel. There are only two very lengthy tunnels which lead to Norendel, it is difficult for non-Seajaws to take these paths and survive. However, there are roughly 5 smaller tunnels connecting The Valley to Krakemar, though precautions must be made for non-Seajaws, the tunnels can still be a dangerous trek. Following the Cavern into its deepest depths to the West, it eventually becomes a medium sized cave with a rushing river that pushes through a large blockage of rocks. In this river, Seajaw eggs are left to hatch by the water eroding the rock layer away in due time.

The Grove - Surrounded by lush vegetation and large trees that seem to touch the sky, The Grove is home to the elusive Hunterjaws. The Grove itself is a cleared out area where the sun can shine down. It has a few large boulders which are covered in moss, and the ground is littered with many different types of flowers. There is a large tree stump in the middle of The Grove which is used as a gathering place for the Hunterjaws. Though The Grove is considered to be a bright and cheery area, the Whispering Woods which loom over The Grove is the complete opposite. Due to the large trees light rarely makes it way to the floor of the Whispering Woods.

Relationships -
Gekros - Snapjaws despise Gekro's.
Gekro's are known to eat Snapjaw eggs and are often seen as savages to the eyes of the Valley.
