This scene has a wow factor all in itself because, well, how often do you get to see a scene like this? A herd of elephant wandering towards you? So right away, this makes you do a double-take. As tough of a capture as I can assume this was, it has a nice composition, with good attention to detail, but a few technicalities hold this back from being more impactful.

Pros:
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="10" height="10" alt=":bulletgreen:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="209" title="Bullet; Green"/> Nice mid-tones. The trees in the background have a warm, faded color so they don't interfere with the action, and give the scene some diversity. The foreground provides a nice contrast without seeming overbearing.
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="10" height="10" alt=":bulletgreen:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="209" title="Bullet; Green"/> A good sense of movement and action- the elephants don't feel stationary.

Cons:
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="10" height="10" alt=":bulletred:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="210" title="Bullet; Red"/> The shadows are flat- the animals lose dimension and detail from the darkness
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="10" height="10" alt=":bulletred:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="210" title="Bullet; Red"/> The highlights are slightly blown- the sky loses integration with the photo
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="10" height="10" alt=":bulletred:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="210" title="Bullet; Red"/> The crop feels good, but I wonder if this would seem more dynamic if it were zoomed in a little?

Overall, it's a solid photo.
Fortytwo elephants

What a story. I can picture it. I've never seen anything like that in a documentary series or anything, to see that in person must be magic. The photo ops must have been endless! How long would that buffalo last him? 2 or 3 meals worth? I have no idea. Wonder if any other lions would attempt to take a bite?

A lion's share
