5 ways I fix Mulan 2020

Yes that’s right I’m gonna fix my most hated live action Disney remake. Hold on to your butts.

Number 1. Not filming in Xinjiang. Disney was okay filming near concentration camps, but I’m not. I would have filmed parts of the film somewhere else. At least to avoid the controversy. Well one of them.

Number 2. Mulan not being a Mary Sue, the original Mulan taught us that girls can do whatever boys can do if they train and work hard. Here the remake showed us Mulan was born perfect. In the words of Deadpool, well that’s just lazy writing.

I would have the original Mulan have her struggle to find her place in her life. Flaws are what makes us human and relatable. Hell One Punch Man is more relatable than Mulan.

Number 3 making it more historical and cultural accurate. Okay I admit I barely know anything about Chinese culture and history. Besides the Monkey king and the original Ballad of Mulan. But I would have done my research. Moral of the story always do your research kids.

Number 4. Give Xuanniang a better backstory and redemption arc. Ok the witch was weird. Here’s what I would do make her an assassin, rejected by her own family and peers, joined Böri Khan, gets treated like shit. Gets beaten by Mulan, joins Mulan and the Chinese army. Gets killed during the final battle against Böri Khan. Gets a hero’s death. Maybe explore her backstory.

Number 5, Include Shang. Get rid of that Chen guy, you could have included Shang in this. He and Mulan had no romantic interest until the end of the film. Yes I know he’s a bisexual icon, I’m cool if he was straight washed, I’m cool with that.

Here are some honourable mentions

Make the crew Asian, the cast was Asian but the crew was white.

Make it more faithful to the ballad, ok not 100% faithful but still.

Make it make more realistic. No magic or chi crap, Mulan rise of a warrior was realistic and it didn’t have a fucking witch.
