Mysterious night glow

As I was leaving the store I saw some strange glowing in the east. It took me a little while to figure out what it was. The moon was shining through two layers of clouds. The further one diffused the light and then the near one was blocking the view of the moon in the center while letting the mysterious glow show through.

It was a very alien and ominous night rise opposite the dimming sunset behind me.
