Okay, I better warn you now, this review is as long as the last but it's only for ONE ISSUE. That should tell you how much I hate it.
Now, the first three issues did filled me with rage but they are just bad. That's it. Another bad comic along with Count Down, and X-infernus. Nothing more, nothing less.
But the Forth issue?
The forth made be want to cry. Just crawl into a corner, curl up into a ball, and cry. It’s. Evil. That’s the only way I can explain it. I have never hated a comic so much as I have this single issue. I didn’t even think it was possible for me to hate a comic so much.
And on that note, let me explain something about Joe Quesada.
Joe Quesada is a good writer... Shut up, he is. But that is exactly WHY this issue upsets me. Because this issue proves not only that Joe Quesada is a great writer, but that he did NOT, I repeat, did NOT need Mephisto to hide Spiderman’s identity, or to break up Spiderman’s marriage with MJ.
To prove this, I want all of you to try and forget about One More Day, Brand New Day, the first three issues of One Moment in Time, and everything else i’ve complained about. I know it’s hard but try to block out the scaring memories for at least a few minutes, please? Remember only this: Peter has asked Doctor strange to erase the memory that he is Spiderman from everyone and Doctor Strange meets with Mr Fantastic and Iron man on the astral plain to talk to them about the problem. Lets begin.
Doctor Strange decides that he wants to help Peter, but he needs help from Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man. However, Iron Man refuses. He is still angry with Peter for betraying him during the civil war. And because he knows that even if they do this now, one day, the spell will be undone, and everyone will remember again. They bring up that it’s technically Tony’s fault for the whole mess Peter is in. And that Peter has been through so much pain, probably more then any of them. He deserves this. Because he is the best of them all. After some thought, Iron Man agrees.
Meanwhile, Peter talks to the unconscious Mary Jane, reminiscing about all the horror she’s had to go through because of him. He says that it would be better if she forgot who Spiderman is, so she won’t be a target anymore. As he tries to reassure himself, the whole ordeal bring him to tears.
On the astral plain, the three go over the plan. Doctor strange will use his magic to make everyone forget. But Reed and Tony will use their technology to spread the spell like a virus. Tony’s suit in particular will act as a carrier for the spell. This spell is gonna be powerful-- more powerful then any memory wipe spell Strange has done before. Everyone, including Tony, Richard's and Strange will be affected.
Doctor strange returns to Peter and starts the spell. He creates the a bubble for Peter to stand in so he will be unaffected. As Peter stands inside the bubble, he says good-bye to the still unconscious MJ as the spell starts.
But at the last minute, Peter runs out of the bubble. He picks up MJ and pulls her into the bubble, decided that he “can’t live a life with her that’s a lie-- and there's no life for [him] without her”. The spell finishes and Strange collapses on the floor unconscious as the spell ends.
The entire scene is so sweet and romantic. I could here powerfully romantic and passionate music in the back of my head during the whole ordeal. And the conversation between Tony, Richard's and Strange suits their characters perfectly, and the way they finally come to a decision shows there emotions during the Civil War, and how they all feel about Parker. Body language and dialogue and both perfect here.
Peter returns back to his home with MJ. As he lays her on the bed, she wakes up, and wonders what happened. Peter also lays down as tell her that Strange made everyone forget who he was, before going to sleep. But MJ is left wide awake.
Spiderman wakes up to see MJ upset. He asks what's wrong and she wishes that she could have forgotten too. But not for her safety. She didn’t realize until now how much danger her own friends and family would be in as Spiderman’s girlfriend. “It’s no you putting them in danger... it’s me!”. They hold each other close as they say good-bye.
In the present. Peter agrees that it was good to finally get everything off his chest. They say good bye and MJ leaves on friendly terms with Peter. The comic ends with Spiderman swinging into the sunset realizing that a weight has been lifted from his shoulders and that today feels like the start of a brand new day. The end.
BULL. SHIT.
Uuugh. I feel like crying again. The artwork for the past is nice, and I love the work on the cover. But this issue PROVES that they didn’t need Spiderman to make a deal with the devil. In fact, it works better if this was really what happened during the civil war, without any of that One More Day crud. Instead, we have the following problems:
1. Why didn’t Peter just ask Strange to do this in the first place?
2. And if Strange was this powerful, why couldn't he heal Aunt May, again?
3. the trio call peter the “greatest of them all” which would be awesome except, HE MADE A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL
4. I sweetened MJ’s personality here. In the comic, she says the same thing but with a whole lot BITCHIER. Which then didn’t need to do. AT. ALL.
5. What does MJ mean she didn’t realize the danger until now? Married or not, how long has she known Peter?
6. A brand new day? Uhhgh the pun-- it hurts~
7. Wait, does MJ remember the deal with Mephisto or what?
8. THEY REUSED THE ARTWORK FROM ONE MORE DAY! GRAAAH! Those lazy--! They actually reused the last scene of One More Day for Parker’s conversation with MJ and just changed the dialogue! No one thought to redraw it? Like the marriage scene in the first issue?! And here's the kicker-- this was the only scene I still liked from One More Day! It was a sweet good-bye between Peter and MJ before Mephisto’s spell took over. As bad as the comic was, I had still loved it. And they changed it to MJ whining and bitching about how she wishes she could forget like everyone else! The one thing I still liked in that comic and they step on it!
Oh, but I haven’t even gotten to the worse of it yet. ... Guess what I found out after first writing this review the first time around?! Turns out Quesada planned this comic as a way to undo the deal with Mephisto. OMIT, as it was dubbed, is called OMIT because of this: By going back in time and changing the past, Mephisto changed the future, therefore “omitting” the deal that he made with Parker.
So now, as it stands, the deal with the devil is over, and we can get on with our lives.
What?
WHAT?!
WHAAAAAAT?!
That is the dumbest, idiotic thing I have heard yet! HOW were any of us supposed to know about this? Quesada had to tell us in an interview. When you have a MAJOR PLOT POINT in a comic, we should find out IN THE COMIC!
Plus, it STILL creates continuity issues, never mind the whole deal with time paradoxes. It still means that the deal with Mephisto was pointless!
Quesada, I have been holding back on this so much, because you are a respected man, a good writer, and judging by some of the comics coming out of Marvel, a good editor. However, this whole idea is just stupid and you are digging yourself a deeper hole here. Please, PLEASE, for the sake of your reputation, don’t “OMIT”, but “UNDO” this whole things, PLEASE. I’m not trying to insult you, but warn you: You have become the butt of many jokes, hated by many comic fans and if this keeps up, you will live on in comic mythos as the guy that shot Spiderman in the back! Right next to the guys that did the clone saga and Spiderman 3!
*whimper* This comic exhausts me. Never have I become so depressed and upset after reviewing something. I can honestly say now that Spiderman: One Moment in Time has become my "Highlander 2". My "Mario Brothers Movie". My "Last Airbender". So full of potential, but so very full of fail.
What happened Quesada? Why did you put in Mephisto? This was obviously a better way to break up MJ and Peter-- without the continuity issues. Did you just not think of this all those years ago? Was Mephisto the only way? At least tell us that Mephisto did have a point in all this. Tell me you go some kind of Grande Finale in the works. And soon. Because that is was everyone is waiting for: the story where Spiderman and MJ are reunited and Mephisto loses. And we actually get to see it in the comic.
I rate this comic 1/10. At least it has a few good moments and a some good art work. A few. But not enough to buy. Just enough to read a summary on the net.
There! It's DONE! You shall haunt me now more, OMIT! WHAHAHA! (why yes, I am still hopped up on cold medicine! How could you tell?)
Thanks to everyone for reading my drivel. I’m... I'm going to listen to something cheerful now...
Seeya,
Tegan aka SlugLady28
P.S. Here's the interview with Quesada where he discusses OMIT: www.comicbookresources.com/?pa…
Oh! And If your still up for more One More Day related stuff, Linkara and the Last Angry Geek have finally broken down to the fans and have teamed up to review this piece of garbage! It'll be out on Wed. this week! (Which means that doing this review myself is even more pointless, but like I said, "facing demons" and all that)
Edit: Here's something i meant to mention. During the entire ordeal from One More Day to now, there seems to be a huge focus on MJ wanting kids. It's true that May Parker won't be born because of this, but it's like every decision MJ makes focuses on her wanting a kid. Because that's the ONLY reason women get married, right? Now, i better stop talking about this before i enter a full on feminist rant >_<

Sluglady Plays Blackwell Epiphany!
Yo! I know it's been a while. Here are the latest updates:1 I've been very very sick. With a cough that makes it hard to draw staight
2 I'm working on a new website for my art and for Slug at Work
3 I have a few illustrations I need to get done before I continue work on Slug at Work chapter 2
4 I've started a new lets play!
I've started a new letsplay because the next wadjet eye game, unavowed, is coming out this week, and maaaay have references to the the blackwell series in it. Also, even if I can't draw straight, I can at least record some audio, and then cut out the coughing. Now, due to the dark nature of some of the events in this...
Slug At Work Chapter 2 coming soon! And other news
Hey guys! Just wanted to give an update on future events to come. So, first off, I am going on vacation this week! This week I will be only posting the last speed draw for Slug At Work , as I will be out of town and away from my scanner. (my phone is having trouble posting anything, even if it's ready to go.) Where am I going? TO NIGHTVALE! Well, okay, I'm going to a Nightvale live show in Calgary, but close enough. It's the final performance of their show "All Hail", and they've come to Canada! It's the last chance to see it, so if you're a Canadian Nightvale fan, head over and get some tickets! Next up, Slug At Work Chapter 2 is coming...
Achievement unlocked: Substitute computer
Alright! We're back! Sorta. My computer is currently in the shop for a week being repaired. But I'm not going to let a little thing like a broken computer stop me! I have another one that I'm borrowing and the my scanner works with it! So, we're gonna be a sketchbook week! Bad news: my finished videos are on the MY computer. (which of course i didn't back up, guh.) and this one is a wee limited in what it can or cannot do (so anything requiring photoshop or premier is probably a no. I'll see what I can do.) See you tomorrow! Tegan Dumpleton aka the Sluglady
