This is the city of Liat. Another of my favorite commissions for Knight Errant Games for their Role-Playing Game Heroes’ Tears

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the colors turned out, and the perspective was a ton of fun.

A huge river that seems to cut the world in half dominates this illustration. The city along its edge is "built" with a very similar premise to other cities in the area, which means that the living birch trees rise up & form the structures. Even those boats floating in the river are made of a living tree.

Defensive towers rise out of the river near the shoreline. Half-carved, half naturally formed rock and the birch roots make up the towers. You’ll also notice some Tower of Babel architectural influences in there. Along the upper levels sit catapults and ballista. The manned sentries atop them guard this entire stretch of river.

There's closeups available if you go to my website: www.stephanieshimerdla.com/lia…

I take it Liat is Mediterranean/corsairs inspired.

It was all based off the description given by the client, but the water color was certainly Mediterranean inspired. We took a cruise down there last year, so those were the colors I chose. :)

Thanks! I think you can see my growth with landscapes pretty clearly through these commissions, with the last two definitely being the best. :)

They are yet to come? And yes we can sense the progression. I was mostly doing landscapes for a while before reverting to character too - I knew I wasn't very good with people and wanted to focus on them. Though I've just completed a city shot.
I really dig the water in this one.

These last two (Swamp Reach and this one) are the last of the landscapes for now. Next up are some monsters. :)
