Apo Plugins: Hexes And Crackle by slobo777 Apo Plugins: Hexes And Crackle by slobo777
Finally decided to publish a version of the two variations I have made lots of use of over the last year.

The download includes two plugin DLLs which you can place in your Apoplugins folder as usual.

Be sure to check out these resources . . .

*zweeZwyy's Quick Crackle Cracher script: [link]

=Kabuchan's Crackle Spiral script: [link]

Please Note:

- Veeery slow plugins

- Hexes has one slightly broken variable (hexes_distort) but otherwise works fine.

Love the Hexes plugin but it was taking so long I had to stop short on the fractal cause I'm impatient, bummer too cause I love how it was starting to look. Also could only render a small size with low quality cause it was gonna take days otherwise.

Anyhoo, nevermind my whining and thanks for the cool plugin

Oh, what is the pseudo-code/source for cracle?

It's in the .zip (required for GPL license set up by `JoelFaber. Source is C. The Voronoi algorithm is pretty simple. The simplex noise algorithm is a little trickier, but it is not 100% necessary to generate the shapes.

You really don't need my approval for helping others use the resources I released!

But thanks, yes I like what you've done with the script. Some patterns I've not seen before . . .

:thanks: Thort they were worth sharing, it can be a chore getting around crackle to find what you want & this gives a few jumping off points.
:sherlock:~Any chance you will be making a Voronoidal field random generator plugin , if such a thing is possible, any time soon?:?

"Any chance you will be making a Voronoidal field random generator plugin"

What is one of those? Sounds interesting, send a link?

Crackle is based on Voronoi . . .

So you say in the ReadMe, which is why I wondered if you knew ways of making such a beast. I have noticed eralex61's recent posts [link] & wondering how they can be achieved. His hints here in Comments [link] intrigue me - I know nothing of plugin making, but you do ....:D

He appears to be using more randomisation for setting the centre of the cells, and perhaps some optimising to calculate the layout. Crackle is based on a (theoretical) infinite grid, whilst eralex61's seems to be a fixed number of points - that may allow for some shortcuts abnd speed improvements.

The crackle code could definitely be extended to make patterns very similar to eralex61's results, but personally I'd wait to see if he released the plugin directly.

:thanks:~From various responses I doubt anytime soon. I think he likes to tease.

Meanwhile I'm have a lot of fun trying to figure it out "my way" (don't ASK!) :slamhead: - if she appears to be loopy di loop in near future you know why

In zip file, the examples_crackle_hexes.flame file has a flame called "like_dreaming" . . . it uses hexes with a little fan2, waves and horseshoe. The formula for the gnarl-like flames I have been making is to use hexes one one xform, with very low values for rotation, a value near 1.0 for the hexes_power, and the triangle/xform would usually make a simple outward spiral. Then add v small amounts of other variations to distort things. Have fun!
