Just wanted to give a quick update! (You know, while I can remember to and have the time to update!
First off, I'm working on a demo level using the UDK (The Unreal Development Kit from Epic Games) to show off some lighting models, fluid surfaces and some DX11 tessellation. I taught a lecture series in the summer of 2010 at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on content and level creation using the UDK and I'm interested to see how much realism we can get out of a game engine. I've already posted some (really early) examples of what can be done with the UDK. (If and whenever the CryEngine 3 SDK is released, I'll be moving over to that!)
Secondly, I've been working on creating 3D models again. I have experience with creating non-organic objects (Like the Enterprise-D 3DS Max renders I did *years* ago) but I've been wanting to release more organic models. I've even been trying my hand at modeling a face! So far, so good. I decided to re-create Alyx Vance from the Half Life 2 universe as my first victim! My tools thus far are Autodesk's Mudbox and Maya 2011. The eyes are the most difficult thing to get right... so I'll keep everyone updated on that!
