The neighborhood we're currently living in was a swamp just outside the city limits that was bought cheap & built up even more cheaply at the tail end of the housing bubble. It's half-abandoned, with "for sale" signs dotting the yards of places not filled with folks like us who needed cheap rentals.
Here & there you can see evidence of where more was planned until it was all just abruptly dropped. This's part of a multi-lot section that's being reclaimed by nature. What you see here are pipes sticking up where a space was cleared & pipes laid but no foundation was ever poured.
Some days it seems like the rest of the place is rotting away, just like this lot, only slower.
