Literature Text
Amelia watched the galaxy float past from one of the many windows of Princess Allura’s castle-ship. She watched the various stars disappear behind her- Her arms made subtle noises as the metal bands clanged softly; seeing her reflection in the glass she brought her hand to her neck where a choker sat with a Star gem in the middle proof that she has already been matched with the perfect suitor. She felt the coolness of the Gemstone relaxing and almost let her thoughts get carried away until she heard a door go whoosh!
Coran entered the empty room only to find Amelia lost in thought, touching her all too familiar choker. Watching her as she realized he was there through the reflection in the glass was somewhat entertaining, seeing her slightly jump caught off-guard was something she didn’t do often.
Coran was the first to speak.
“Quite beautiful isn’t it”
“All too mesmerizing, it’s almost relaxing”
Amelia replied. Her species studied the stars from afar so seeing it passing by was quite impressive. They relied on stars for their daily routines, wars and general faith. The stars held messages that see you though this existence, her leader and master had once said.
“You know, I’ve wanted to learn more of your culture ever since you show us how you read the stars. I found it quite delightful”
“Seekriri often used the sky and sea together to tell them where they are and what time it was, the stars hold messages for us when we need them”
As Coran listened intently Amelia gave a half-hearted shrug. While she was a seerer of all things she was often disengaged from the stars, her practice and skills were important to her but the stars don’t hold every answer.
Coran studied her face and body, it had relaxed somewhat him the ridged way she held herself. Her hazel eyes held a certain truth that he couldn’t decipher and it bugged him slightly. he often considered a skill in reading people up close but Amelia kept her worries sealed away. Deciding to try to coax her to open more he casually mentioned her choker and Amelia sighed.
“Seekriri marriages and relationships aren’t based on emotion or connection but strength, when you turn the age of 20 you and your future partner are chosen based on abilities and core strength. All emotion or indecision is taken out of the equation.”
Coran was slightly taken aback. He tried to imagine what that might feel like. To have that person who is supposed to be the one true to be chosen randomly and to be bound to each other. Not even considering if they found each other company enjoyable. A pang of sympathy hit him as he realised Amelia’s plight.
They stood together for a while, Amelia teaching Coran about varies customs and beliefs of her people.
