Hey, I'm back from 3 days. I think I'm starting to get my drawing timing joo-joo back again lol
Anyway, this is 2 things
Think-1) This is a new character drawing for my old Souls-Like game project "The Sins of our Creator" The Sins of our Creator (wip) cover art by skylertoons on DeviantArt
Think-2) This is also kinda a surprise "gift art" for one of my watchers, Fraxxura .
Reasons why is first she did a lovely drawing of one of my OC's "Skylee" in her 80's workout outfit Skylee by Fraxxura on DeviantArt (do go check it out, she did a wonderful job ^^) and the 2nd reason is because back before Inktober started, she did posted a Inktober preview of what I believe was going to be a group of plague doctors and I was interested in the preview Inktober preview by Fraxxura on DeviantArt
So, I was inspired to try to maybe do a plague doctor character... which is what we have now lol
So this guy is somewhat of a Plague Doctor mixed with somewhat of a hunter like in Bloodborne, and as you can tell... he's seen things and he has faced death as much as you have.
His name is Edgar Allan Crow as in a reference to Edgar Allan Poe (I know that the story that Edgar Allan Poe wrote is called "The Raven" but when you look at both a crow and a raven, they do look pretty similar. plus, Poe kinda rhymes with crow... I know it didn't rhyme but it sounds close so just role with it lol)
He is mostly just a NPC in the game, but he also has a questline of his own.
So lets get started, shall we?
(How the Player meets Edgar)
When you start the game, coming out of the Sea of Ink and arriving in "The Worlds Beginning" You will be learning the basic controls by reading these mysterious letters hidden around the area (The Worlds Beginning is pretty much the tutorial area when you start the game)
These letters also signed by somehow called "Your Pal" however you do not know who this "Pal" is
While you do the tutorial and just explore The Worlds Beginning, you can actually spot a mysterious figure on one of the many ruins just watching you from a far.
You are unable to come near the mysterious figure, so you just continue on your marry way.
Once you beat the tutorial boss aka SAM, you are able to leave The Worlds Beginning and arrive in the world that The Creator left behind. However, before you leave The Worlds Beginning, you can actually find the location of where the mysterious figure was, however once you find the location, the mysterious figure is gone and all you can find is a note.
The Note reads, "I was there at your beginning, and I will be at your ending - Your Pal"
After a while, you eventually encounter the mysterious figure. He leans against an old tree, as he speaks to the crows from the tree.
??? (Edgar): *sees you, speaks calmly and careless* Well, you're still alive I see. Good for you I suppose. It's only gonna get worse for you from here on out, and there aren't many... friendly faces out there. So do watch your back, and DONT step out of line.
Oh! I forgot. The names Edgar. But you can call me, your pal.
(Edgar's Questline)
as you explore the games world, if you spot a lonely crow, that will indicate that Edgar is nearby. If you wonder around the area, you will find Edgar kneeling to the corpse of a beast that he had just slayed.
Edgar: *panting abit from the battle between him and the beast* Rest in Peace, beast. *Noticed you* Oh. You again. Were you following me or something? I'm almost abit flattered *light chuckles* Well then, run along now. *You don't leave* What is then?
*Notice you staring at the corpse of the beast* oh that? Dont worry about him. It was his time anyway. He wasn't willing to give up that's for sure. *chuckles* But still, don't worry about me. I can handle myself but do make sure to stay out of my business. I'd hate to drag you up into this. So, do take care.
Continue on with the main story of the game until you find another lonely crow, but will also hear the sound of roars, shouting, and crashes going on nearby. You investigate and find Edgar in a fight to the death against someone who wore the same crow mask as Edgar. (If you leave Edgar to this fight, he will not last long. So pretty much you have to help him in this fight in order to continue his questline)
Once you and Edgar defeat this foe, Edgar will be abit annoyed knowing that you didnt do what he said on not getting involved, but he did appreciate the help and so Edgar is in your debt.
Edgar will assist you in one of the main story bosses and once thats done, both you and Edgar are square.
After this, you can find Edgar at your save haven simply there to rest for abit. You can talk to him as he then tells you of HIS story.
(Edgar's story)
Edgar is one of Deaths workers, following the ways of the crows, track down and put down, those who's time is up or those who have backstabbed Death himself.
Edgar has somewhat of the ability where he can die but comes back to life just like you. However, it doesn't fully work for him. If he dies with a part of him missing, then when he comes back to life, his missing limb doesn't grow back (which explains why he has a wooden leg), and the more times that he dies and comes back, the weaker he gets and so on.
Edgar then tells you about how he lost his leg, it was caused by one of his old targets that was REALLY not ready to go and so it took his leg and killed Edgar.
Edgar ofcourse came back to life but his leg was replaced with a wooden one, He then vowed that one day, he would find the beast that took his leg and take him down once and for all.
Later as you continue on with the games story, once again you will find another crow but this time it will lead you to where Edgar is.
You find Edgar, but he is REALLY badly injured, Edgar found the beast that took his leg and so he tried to kill it but he wasn't strong enough to fight it, and so he's close to FULL death and he won't be able to come back to life.
However even tho he is badly injured, he tells you to go away as this is his mark, and he will handle it. (If you leave Edgar, he will die, and his questline ends)
You choose to disobey Edgar and go face off against the beast (the beast is a boss fight, altho I don't know what kind of beast it is. Sorry)
Once you kill the beast, you will return back to Edgar who is slowly breathing but he is still able to speak.
Edgar: *panting slowly* What did I tell you about going away? Its bad enough that you were following me around, and then you try to be the hero, huh? *Breathing slowly* well... to be fair... I guess I also was following you around at first, so I guess that makes us even *slowly and softly chuckles* But I told you to NOT get involved... but I guess it cant be helped. We all get curious sometimes... So... Thanks for the help. *Breathing slower* Well... my time is close. I think I can finally rest. Here. take this... as a gift... from your pal. *hands you an item* I was there... at your beginning... But now your here... at my ending. *draws is last breath and dies*
(End of Edgar's Questline)
The item that Edgar gives you before he dies is a chunk of his INK. His INK can be used at a resting area to fully upgrade one stat without you using your own INK.
However you can take this chunk of Edgar's INK, give it to one of the maidens in the game and they can turn it into a special item known as "Flock of Crows"
Flock of Crows is the kind of item that when you equip it will allow you to turn into a small flock of crows when you dodge roll out of the way (so kinda like the smoke bomb dash ability from Cuphead but with crows instead of a smoke bomb)
it can only dodge roll you afew feet away, however it can dash you farther away if you are wearing Edgar's outfit (you can find peices of Edgar's outfit throughout the games world)
and lastly, at Edgar's dead body, you can also take his cane which is a weapon.
(End of lore stuff)
Thats pretty much all I have to say about the lore with Edgar.
Sorry if it was boring or anything, I did try to make it sound good, its been away since I wrote anything story related
But then again, Im sure that you guys are mostly focusing on the drawing rather than the lore stuff, I dont blame ya lol
(The Drawing)
This drawing took me like maybe an hour or 2
at the bottom left corner, you can see some rough draft that I did for Edgar's design until I decided to use abit of Bloodborne inspiration with Edgar's design.
So gave him the crow mask, a hat, scarf, a coat, some old, withered pants, I gave him a neckless that release the scent of incense
and ofcouse, his wooden leg. I wanted to give his wooden leg to look pretty old and worn out with the wood slightly chipping away along with cracks and so forth.
and lastly, we have Edgar's crow cane.
Thats pretty much all I have to say about all of this. I enjoyed working on this drawing and I do hope u all like the drawing as well
I do hope that Fraxxura likes the drawing as well. Do go give her a watch and so forth, shes a really great artist.
Have a good one everyone ^^
