SkylerToons Plays The Callisto Protocol

So about a week ago, I did a post showing that I bought some new games for my PS5, which were The Dead Space Remake, and The Callisto Protocol, along with getting the collectors edition.
Recently last Friday, I managed to beat the Dead Space remake using ONLY the Plasma Cutter and other stuff, I LOVED it alot, I cant wait to play it again since I still got some trophies to collect along with unlocking the new secret ending and stuff like that.

The Day after that, I then started up The Callisto Protocol and finished on Sunday... so that was fast lol
However it wasn't a cakewalk as I died ALOT of times, but overall I thought the game was ago and I'm playing it again since I'm 2 trophies away from getting the platinum.
Anyway, time to talk about the game.





(Game's History-ish)
The Callisto Protocol was developed by a new studio known as "Striking Distance" led by Glen Schofield who worked on the Dead Space franchise along with other people who worked on those games as they all work together to make their own game which was The Callisto Protocol.

In 2020 we got a cinematic reveal trailer for the game, and everyone thought like "Oh this looks cool, a new sci fi horror game" or something "Maybe this is going to be the spiritual successor to the Dead Space franchise" or whatever.
After that we haven't got anything related to the Callisto Protocol until 2022 where we began to see trailers and gameplay. and When I saw the trailers, I was pretty hooked, however I decided to not get it since by then I didn't had a Next Gen game to play it and when the game did came out... people were NOT happen, mostly on PC.

Like left and right I kept seeing negative reviews left and right, back and forth, ect.
From what I heard on PC when the game first came out, there were problems with FPS going under 60 which is pretty crappy, and some graphic problems.
However overtime I did started to see some positive reviews on the game saying stuff like "yeah the game has some problems but its still a good game" 
and the game started to get some updates fixing the bugs in the game and so far recent reviews on steam have been mostly positive on Steam which sounds good.
and then of course the game got overthrown by The Dead Space Remake and of course EVERYONE loves the Dead Space remake more.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yeah, thats kinda the history of The Callisto Protocol for now  





(Game's Story)
In The Callisto Protocol, you play as "Jacob Lee" who was just a pilot minding his own business, making some deliveries here and there until his crash lands on Jupiter's Moon "Callisto" which is also the home of the infamous space prison "Black Iron Prison"
For some unknown reason, Jacob gets arrested, taken as a prisoner, and before you know it... ALL HELL BRAKES LOSE! As an outbreaks starts all over the prison turning all the prisoners into mutated monsters called "Biophages"
Now Jacob MUST team up with unlikely allies in order to escape Black Iron Prison, figure out the mysteries of what started the outbreak, and get off of Callisto.





(Gameplay)
When you look at the gameplay of The Callisto Protocol, you can tell that the game has similarities to the Dead Space games 
Example 1: both health bars are on the back (in Dead Space the health bar is located on the spin while on The Callisto Protocol, its located on the back of the neck)
Example 2: both games shows holograms of how much ammo you have for each guns
Example 3: both games has a stomping and telekinesis like mechanics
Example 4: both games takes place in space while fighting off a horde of monsters


The game dose have a few other references to Dead Space but thats about it
other then that, the game dose have its own things such as its own way of doing the combat.

The game's combat is more of melee based than it is of shooting even tho you unlock some guns. The player has to use the LEFT analog stick in order to dodge enemies attacks by moving the stick left and right and moving the stick down in order to block attacks, then use the R2 trigger to attack or use R1 bumper to do a heavy attack (however you need to unlock the heavy attack once you get your melee weapon and upgrade it)
and once you unlock a gun, you can started to do a some new combos mixed with melee and shooting
(aka do a melee combo, and then you'll see a target locked onto a part of the enemy. Once you see the target, then quickly aim and shoot
and you can mix up the combo once you get the hang of it)
and the game has abit of stealth in it as well for certain moments in the game.

Before I continue, I just want to say that I overall did like this game. However just because I liked the game, dosnt mean that the game is perfect and the game dose have some issues to me, and we're going to talk about it.
However lets start with some of the stuff that I DID like in the game

[My Likes]
1. I enjoyed the combat, it was new to me and yes it was tricky for me at first but after the 3rd combat encounter, I began to get the hang of it. It was like riding a bike, ya never forget. And honestly it feels so satisfying to beat the hell out of these biophages to pieces! XD 
2. Enemy designs, some of them look like humans but mutated, some enemies look like they were fused together, and most of them are just pretty body horror like
3. The story as I feel like most of the story was pretty good
4. The First boss fight aginst the BIG Biophage known as "2-Heads"


[My Dis-Likes]
some of my dis-likes share some of my likes
1. Death related. This one is abit of a nit-pic but still, when you die, you go back to the last checkpoint that you were at which could of been like maybe 5 or 10 mins ago or something, and when you die and respawn, everything u did resets back to what it was like before. (for example, there were times where I got some new upgrades for some of my weapons, and then withing a few mins I died, and then I go back to my last checkpoint... and then I would have to re buy the upgrades that I got my guns already which is pretty annoying) also your health doesn't go full when you re spawn
2. There isn't alot of enemies in the game. Theres like a total of 9 enemies. 11 if you count the bosses. I'm not saying thats bad, but I feel like maybe they could of made a few other enemies, and this ties into my 3rd Dis-like

3. The boss fights. If you remember from my 4th LIKE, I mentioned that I enjoyed the FIRST boss fight against the "2-Heads"
It was intense and cool and all that... but I have a problem with the rest of the bosses.
My problem with the other bosses is that you fight the 2-Heads... 3 MORE TIMES! 
There is a total of like 5 boss fights and 4 of them is the SAME! and the 2-Head boss fights... there all the same! no other strategies at all! 
and the final boss is something different but its still a bitch to deal with! (the final bosses design is pretty cool, I will admit)
For the final boss, he is a pain to hurt since he only has ONE weak-spot which is his face (what a shocker) however, he has a face shield thing and you need to break down the face shield by shooting at it until it opens up and then you need to shoot his face as much as you can until he covers it up again. He also dose ONE-HIT kills, and once you break his face shield the first time, abunch of explosive biophages will start crawling in and so now u have to try to avoid him while also trying to kill the boss without him killing you!
But, you could use your GRP to grab the explosive biophages and throw them at the boss but still.
Ya know how many times it took me to kill this boss? 5 times! But at least I finally beat them.

4. There were a few moments in the story that I had a lil problem, which was one of the character development and a lil bit of a plothole
other than that, I enjoyed the story





Sooooooooooooooooooooooo yeah, I have both positives and negatives with the game, overall I still liked the game.
Do I recommend the game... kinda not right now
wait until the game is on sale, then maybe. 
The game is avaliable on PC, PS5, and Xbox series X/S (it is on ps4 and xbox one but I recommend that u don't play the game on those consoles)
I give The Callisto Protocol a 7 out of 10 (Good)


As for the drawing, its just me in combat with one of the enemies, it took me some time to do so I hope u all like the drawing and I hope to hear what u guys think about it.
I will be doing a SkylerToons Plays on the Dead Space eventually, but not right away as I'm already working on other stuff rn
