Ksenia Sapunkova is a Canadian artist who was born in Ukraine, and grew up in Lviv. She graduated from the I.Trush College in Lviv with a BA degree in Sculpture. When she moved to Toronto and she further persuaded her education in the illustration at Sheridan College. Thorough understanding of the depth of space provides her the means to create atmospheric scenes in her paintings while the skill in illustration and exposure to the new types of media allowed her unique visual language to evolve.
Currently she works as a freelance artist in her studio exploring and experimenting with a wide range of media from watercolours, ink, organic elements to acrylics and 24K Gold leaf. The versatile use of different media and artistic techniques allows her to create varied conceptual illustrations with vivid storylines.
K. Sapunkova collaborates with magazines, newspapers and book publishers. Since 2014, she works at the Byzantine Iconographic studio where she assists master iconographers Theodore Koufos and Valentin Streltsov to create the murals for churches and other forms of religious art including icons.
in the traditional Byzantine style. Her paintings can be found in private collections and museums in Canada, US, Ukraine, France, England, Russia, Poland and Italy.
