Well, I found a lot of old works in progress, so I am really busy finishing them when possible. Some are so old they are not my style anymore, but I see what I can do. Hate it when they are stuffed around in drawers without being finished.

And of course there is my new cadaver Foxy , who lies happily dead in my garden for my joyfull observation. So stay tuned for some 'fresh' sketchwork. I  still have to upload it though, time is still not my friend.

From October 2012 I will get back to do a weekly theme with a short text and of course with features.

Last week's theme waterhorses was really great. I did some sketch work and started to read 'Scorpio Races-Maggie Stiefvater'. This book is about waterhorses and I really like it. I did not finish it though, so I will not say anymore about it now.

If you are interested, you can find out more about this book here: maggiestiefvater.com/the-scorp…

This week's theme can be no surprise:

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of its original title "All Hallows' Evening"),[ also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly holiday observed around the world on October 31, the eve before the Western Christian feast of All Hallows. According to some scholars, All Hallows' Eve initially incorporated traditions from pagan harvest festivals and festivals honoring the dead, particularly the Celtic Samhain other scholars maintain that the feast originated entirely independently of Samhain.

Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (also known as "guising"), attending costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

Samhain ( /ˈsɑːwɪn/, /ˈsaʊ.ɪn/, or /ˈsaʊn/ is a Gaelic harvest festival held on October 31–November 1. It was linked to festivals held around the same time in other Celtic cultures, and was popularised as the "Celtic New Year" from the late 19th century, following Sir John Rhys and Sir James Frazer. The date of Samhain was later associated with the Catholic All Saints' Day (and later All Souls' Day) from at least the 8th century, and both the Gaelic and the Catholic liturgical festival have influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween.

The medieval Goidelic festival of Samhain marked the end of the harvest, the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darker half". It was celebrated over the course of several days and had some elements of a Festival of the Dead. Bonfires played a large part in the festivities. People and their livestock would often walk between two bonfires as a cleansing ritual, and the bones of slaughtered livestock were cast into its flames.[
Samhain is celebrated as a religious festival by some neopagans.

A beautiful song about Samhain: Samhain-Magica www.youtube.com/watch?v=awFgOe…

You can smell it in the air
It is the time of
burning leaves
The little girl
peels the apple
Round and round

The Earth is alive
And she sees what
she believes
The hazelnuts lie
Open on the ground

Let's open the gates
So our loved ones may pass !

Thanks for the mention of Samhain. In my personal and family tradition, it is the end of the year, the day where the spirits are closest and we remember our ancestors. We realize the Earth is in its dying and rest cycle, and we await the passing of the darkness until Candlemas (Feb 2) when the Sun is reborn.

It's an exciting time, even if it's the beginning of the HARD time of the year. And I love being able to remember my relatives who have passed on, such as my Grampa, who wanted to know me so much, but died before I was born. I still consider him to be my Guardian Angel.

Peace and blessings!

Hi Jadewyvern,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Samhain :)

I also believe that people who have passed on to the other side can still be our guardian angels.
