I like this study mostly for the un-tubed tail showing the grasping flesh. Other than the cold of winter the tail should be open as shown. The fingers should be longer on the true hands, an the mid limbs should also have hands. David Weber describes the body as weasel like so body is probably too heavy. But very good.

I love Nimitz. I really really wish I could have a tree cat.

I like the drawing, except aren't tree cats suppose to have longer hair? And I know that Weber specifically wrote that most of the time you couldn't see the bare underside of their tales. Oh well it is still better than I can do, and one of the best I've seen. Barring the lack of injuries it could be Nimitz on hell.

Thank you, I guess :D

Well, you're right about the hair. It should be longer, but I just thought that 'cats could have different races as real cats do. And as my cats have shot hair (I don't really like long haired cats' faces) I suppose it slipped into the drawing. Anyway, I think I'll take your advice and give him longer hair when I colour it.

Abut the tail, I may have missed that hint you mention. Where does he say that? Could you tell me? I read only four books in the Harrington's series by now. Of course, I read them in english and it's a foreing language to me, so it's perfectly possible that I didn't get all the details.

I thank you for the hints. I'll try to include them in the coloured version.

Prefer short haired cats as well, sadly they don't do well in cold weather, like winters on Sphinx.

I can not remember were in the earlier books this fact about the tail was mentioned, or even if it was, but it is made very clear in Echos of Honor. Echos is one of the later books so you probably have not read it yet, meaning I shouldn't have expected you to know this. To quote from chapter six without spoiling the plot: "The 'cats had met the challenge by evolving a tail which was both wider than most people ever realized and completely bare on its underside. Powerful muscles normally kept it tightly curled into a lengthwise tube which showed only its bushy outer surface and hid the leathery skin which gripped even wet or icy branches and limbs without a hint of slippage. It was a neat arrangement which provided maximum heat retention during the icy winter months without depriving a 'cat of the use of his tail."

Thinking about it though, I guess it could make sense as an artist to take the liberty of showing the underside, thus show casing another attribute of treecats.

I look forward to seeing what you do with the drawing, whatever choices you make.

Thanks for the tips. :D

I already posted a new version (inked this time), with more fur and the bare part of the tail a little less obvious. Hope you like it ;)
