On journeys you seem to walk a lot, I've found, but you can sometimes stop and hunt for food and find a water source-- or, at least you can in the mountains and forest areas. In the desert, the walking seems endless. There simply aren't any water sources and most of the animals don't appear until night-time and are not the sort you would generally want to hunt for food anyway, though after a certain point I wonder if even scorpions could be appealing. Thankfully that was not a point we reached.
We continued to walk in the same direction Mathias had started in for several hours at least, and the day was growing hotter as the hours stretched on. Fortunately, we had our packs so we would be able to defend ourselves in this vast, dangerous desert. Not so fortunately, Mathias hadn't packed any provisions. Of course.
Mathias continued to march resolutely forward, but Libellia and I were falling behind. Libellia was panting and looking pained and I was starting to feel a headache coming.
