Tales of Fantasy Pg.05 by SiverCat Tales of Fantasy Pg.05 by SiverCat
Took a little longer than I would have like, but Leo's plan has now come in to fruition, more or less.

Tools: Blender 2.49b, Paint Shop Pro 6.02

But, they can be powerful cannon fodder.

What? You mean his plan worked? Well, it was a good plan afterall. Leo may not look like much, but he's a very strategic thinker.

So, the peahat thing threw Edward into a tree, good thing he got off that last spell before he went down. Wizards may not be able to take a hit but they can sure pack a good punch before they go! Good thing Fiona had that potion to get him back on his feet.

Hmm, it appears that Fiona's feet while she's holding Edward have clipped into the ground. Other than that the posing throughout looks good, Edward being flung through the air especially.

Of course it worked! I'm not that mean...yet...:evillaugh: Besides, I don't need a first fight to be dragged over multiple pages. That was my real reason - it had nothing to do with being nice to my characters, oh no. Well...the real reason was to help with some characterization, ie, Leo being a planner.

Fiona was such a nuisance to pose in that panel >< (must...learn...armatures...) I had a very clear image of Edward flying through the air finishing off his spell, so that was a good panel to do.

True... a super long battle with the first foe would mean all the other battles would have to be just as long if the future enemies were to be stronger and tougher. lol, just some character developement, which is always good, rather than being nice. Kind of makes you feel sorry for them... for a fleeting moment

More to armatures than some nice simple rotations eh? The flying Edward panel turned out very nice and got you some more positioning practice that was easier than Fiona's.

Armatures are simple enough once attached...it's the attaching and making sure everything moves the way it's supposed to that I haven't entirely figured out yet.

That's where the trouble lies, making the way they link up work properly without weird deformations. I don't know how it is exactly in Blender, but in 3ds max this meant editing all the individual model vertices to get things to look pretty good... a big pain that is.

Blender has envelopes and weight painting. I think I might be forgetting another option as well...I really have to get back to trying to figure it all out...

Ah, yes, I recall that now. Think you mentioned it before and is rather similar to the 3ds max envelopes and weighting. I think the last option is probably setting each and every vertice its own weight, perhaps even with calculation to the other weights nearby till each vertice has 100% weight in relation to all surrounding vertices (advanced mode... very confusing in 3ds max) It's hard getting them all right so that when you bend a limb it looks good and natural.

And that is why I keep posing them in the slow, inefficient and awkward way of moving vertices...^^;

School's started, so yeah. It's gonna start piling up. But, hey, there's always late nights on weekends. But I also gotta get that calendar done too...

Action! Magic! Adventure!

This really reminds of all those Dungeouns and Dragons games I used to play. The Wizard was always weak but oh so needed and necessary!

It might be subconscious but it seems a bit brighter. What do you use Paint Shop Pro for?

My favorite panel is Fiona giving Edward that drink. (No doubt she is getting him drunk before she steals his wallet)

Excellent! Thank You Sivercat. You know how I wait for these to come out!

Wizards traditionally have crappy hitpoints - not just in D&D but in video games too, which is what I was referencing - those two. Yaaay, 1D4 hitpoints! Poor wizards...

So you used to play D&D? You just earned more cool points ;) :D

It shouldn't be any brighter... I'm glad it's brighter, but still odd. They should seem the same.

I use Paint Shop Pro for putting the panels together as a page, doing the speech bubbles and the text. The actual art work is all done in Blender.

I'm glad you like that panel. It was a pain to do. Edward was already positioned from the previous panel, but trying to put Fiona in a kneeling position was a pain! (and actually Edward was kind of pain to really in the previous panel...)

Thank you for all your wonderful comments. I'm going to keep trying to get these out, but I still need to do six more months for the calendar, I have school work and freelance writing work to worry about as well. When did I let my life get so busy!?
