January by SiverCat January by SiverCat
I am creating a calendar for 2011 or so I hope...
And here's January! The lil' people continue their conquering ways...

Update: Brightened up the image some.

Oddly enough, for some reason that can happen in 3d programs where in one the lighting is one way, but then its different in the other. The worst thing is when it randomly changes during an animation. Nice poses, have a good variation like you'd expect to see at a place with people ice skating. I think the ice over the pond could use a different texture, or maybe if it was slightly opaque. Although I do think the dull sky rather works for January, tending to be darker and gray anyways.

January still needs some work...this like a...a preview image! Yeaaah. lol.
I know you don't use Blender, but do you have any advice on what might fix the lighting? It was really puzzling.

Did you set up your own lighting for the scene or is it just normal render lighting? If its your own its possible some setting got changed somewhere or it has something to do with a different angle of the render so it doesn't catch it as well. If its just the normal lighting without lights you could try adding a light and removing it or just try to use the light to make the scene brighter like the other one. It's really rather stange when renders do this for no apparent reason. You might also try comparing a full render vs just a prerender of the scene and seeing if their lighting is the same. I suppose you could even try opening the December file and hiding all its objects, then import all the January objects and try rending from there.

I set my own lighting. The problem I'm having is I seemed to have done exactly the same thing for December. I'm pretty sure that even my angle is the same or very similar. I may have to resort to importing the objects to December's file. Maybe that will work, though if it doesn't I'll be really puzzled. I'll also try a prerender and see what happens. I didn't think of that. Things never take long to render, so I generally just render the image.

Thanks for helping! :glomp: Hopefully something will work.

It's always possible that you did in fact do the exact same thing as in the December one but Blenders rendered for some reason chose to interpret it differently. Sometimes this does happen for no explicable reason. So yeah, if importing them into the same environ as the December doesn't work then its just being weird. Hopefully it'll work! =)

Strange. Here in California, we generally head to the beach to soak up some rays. Okay Okay...Snow and such do remind me of christmas (And me trying to iceskate with my weak ass ankles).

I do think this one is a bit dark tho. Do you use anything for Postwork? It solves a multitude of problems. It does add to your workflow but maybe Blender normally renders a bit dark?

I know it's dark and I can't figure out why. I had no trouble with December and my settings are the same. I'm going to go back and try to figure out what went wrong before I finalise all them for the calendar.

It's so... gray. Shouldn't the colors be a little bit lighter? =) I love their poses and the trees!

I was really having trouble getting things to look brighter here and I don't know why. I didn't have that problem with December. On the other hand, January is kind of grey month. At least around here. It might also depend a little on your computer screen. But, yeah, it is kind of grey. When everything is complete, I'm going to try to take another look at this one and see what's going on.

Thanks! I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted for poses so I just did what I could.

Could it possible be my computer screen? ~glares at it~ Yeah, I get your point. It is pretty gray in January.
:tighthug: You're welcome! And they look fine :3

It is grey...but images can look darker or brighter depending on the screen is all. *sigh* I just wish I knew why the colours aren't looking right! :shakefist:
