A Meeting over Tea by SiverCat A Meeting over Tea by SiverCat
Full view please.:)

Jade has come to Lilia's world as an ambassador - sort of related to "Ambassador?" [link]
Well, I got the idea from it and a conversation I had with ~CountChristoph who is the creator of Lilia.

This took many, many hours split over I don't know how many days to do. But, I got to make stuff I had never made before - specifically all the food and whatnot on the table. Nearly everything there was new for me, so that was cool. While I generally enjoyed it, it's kind of a relief to finally be finished.

My thanks go to ~CountChristoph for his nitpickiness in viewing my progress. It was very helpful. Particularly, as Jade is in his world and Lilia belongs to him. I wanted to get things right.

It looks like you used set smooth on a basic cylinder shape for the red table as the edges are indistinguishable. I don't know if this was intensional, but there is a way to make a cylinder look smooth. Part 3 of this video series does a good job of explaining it.

Just something that I noticed. Started learning blender myself with these videos. Great work by the way, keep it up.

Actually it's a table cloth over a table, though it's hard to tell with the current view. I did try fixing it, but since it is a table cloth, I don't want the edge to be too sharp either. I really need to get around to seeing about fixing that though. You're the second person to point that out.

Thanks for the link! I'll check it out, though to be honest I do prefer written tutorials to video. Maybe I'm just odd that way lol.

I hope you like Blender. It's a really great program and I love seeing what other people can with it. Thank you for commenting!

Well, I'll give it a go when I get a chance, Gwen. My XP crashed and I'm using backup Linux. The formatting of XP seems to have come to pass...yeep! :-(

Wow, you did an amazing job with this! First off is the great detail all the food have, it almost makes me want to eat them :3 (but the monitor is in my way! T.T)

You composed a nice setting, with a simple table with a nice view out the window, and the characters look quite natural, especially with Jade drinking his cup of tea!

It's amazing what people can do on Blender :3

Darn monitor, eh? I'm rather pleased with the food :)

I wanted to keep things fairly simple, so it wouldn't be too cluttered or have attention detracted from the tea meeting itself :)

Thank you so much! :iconfurryglompplz: :iconfurryhugplz:

Darn monitor indeed... You should be pleased with the food, because it's really good ^^

Too much detail can sometimes kill a picture, I agree. The good side-effect here is that it makes the tea party look calm yet fun :3

You're welcome, it's only natural ^^

I'd say all that time was well spent. The food all looks good and the addition of the steam over the tea, or is it coffee, was a good idea to do.

It was well spent, but...I've spent too long dealing with it. I wish I could look at it with fresh eyes...It's tea:)

You're welcome! I think if you tried to improve it in anyway, it'd be with the table cloth, a bit hard to see the edge of the table there.
Isn't it amazing how much time can disappear when working with 3d? You just start in and get going and figure I'll get this done and then this and the next thing you know, several hours have gone by. Yay, tea =D The teapot really matches the cream holder quite well design wise. Making curves for objects like that can be a lot of work.

I could probably do to sharpen the edge there a bit...There is a table under there...

Time does tend to just vanish...I've certainly noticed that. And when you're going through a mental list of things to get done, I always come to a sudden shock when I realise that my list is pretty much done. That happened with this one.

Ugh...the teapot. Don't get me started on the teapot. It was a major source of procrastination. I'd gotten a good start, then stopped for quite a while due to that thing. Then in a day I finally sat down and really worked with it until I got that, but it was a pain. A big pain. The cream holder was a nuisance too, not because of the shape or curves, but because of the spout...lots of growling there.

Erm, now I'm sort of ranting, ahem. I'll stop now.

Yup, you're just going and trying to get all the tasks done doing one thing after another and thinking you have time for another. Then you look at the time and its many hours later and wow, you did get quite a bit done, usually at any rate.

lol, guess blender doesn't have a default teapot you could've just used instead, 3ds max and maya come with a teapot default object =P Making it from scratch would be a pain getting the polys to line up and curve right into making a proportionate handel and spout. Then with the cream holder that spout has to come directly from the top making it more difficult. You managed to pull it off though.

It was a pain. I ended restarting the teapot. My original sucked and was ugly. The cream dish just took lots of sighing and cursing.

That happens sometimes, work on it and have to start over when you run into problems and issues or it just looks bad and can't be salvaged. Doing it again the second time is usually easier though. What'd you use as a starting base? A sphere?

I started the teapot with a circle.
