Two days after entering the forest, Cath found a small clearing with a vegetable garden. Tomatoes were ground above the ground, and radishes and turnips were growing in it. All of them were ripe and looked to be perfectly edible. It was weird, she thought. As a Zigzagoon, she was a great scavenger, yet she had found very little food in the forest thus far. For some reason or other, there was plenty of it here. This much food doesn't usually grow by itself, yet everything was too disorganized to be planted here by someone else. Either way, there might be other Pokemon nearby. Cath waited around for a while to see if anyone else would show up and helped herself in the meantime.
After waiting around for half an hour, no one showed up, so Cath explored the area around the forest. Still, she was unable to find anyone. Since this much food in one place was rare, she decided to stay here for a night and have a good breakfast next morning before setting off.
Cath was woken up the next morning by two voices she overheard.
"What's in the buckets?" a Bagon asked.
"Nothing," a Sandshrew replied. She tilted one of them sideways to give Bagon a clear look at it. "I was going to go fill them up by the river."
"Don't come back."
"What?"
"This garden is mine now. Scram."
Cath took that as her cue to get involved and help Sandshrew. She jumped out of the tree she slept in and landed between the pair and faced Bagon.
"Hey, back off!" Bagon said.
"You back off." Cath charged straight at Bagon. Bagon responded by lowering her head and charging straight at Cath. Their two Headbutts collided, and the clash forced Cath to reel backwards. Bagon ran forwards and raked her claws across Cath's front left leg. Cath curled up into a ball and rolled away.
"Weakling," Bagon replied, then focused her attention on Sandshrew. "Are you going to try to fight too?" Before Sandshrew could reply, Cath spun around, rammed Bagon, and continued rolling. Bagon waited for Cath to come back around and met her Rollout with a Headbutt. Sandshrew took the opportunity to sharpen her claws. While Bagon's attention was on Cath, Sandshrew joined Cath in rolling out and hit Bagon from behind. Once Bagon realized she was outnumbered, she decided that fleeing was her best course of action.
"Forget this. A bunch of vegetables aren't worth this much trouble," Bagon said before running off. Cath rolled after Bagon, intending to finish the battle, but Sandshrew rolled in front of her, blocking her path.
"She's getting away!" Cath yelled.
"Let her," Sandshrew replied. "She gave up. You don't need to fight until one of you is unconscious."
"She tried to knock me out."
"And she'll succeed if you keep fighting."
"No, she won't. I can take her."
"You won't gain anything from winning a fight."
"What if she comes back?"
"Why would that matter? Are you staying?"
"I... if you don't mind... this garden is yours?"
"It isn't really my garden. I just look after it. It was here when I got here. You can stay if you like. My name is Lyla."
"I'm Cath."
"If that Bagon comes back, we can fight her off again. I do not have any healing items, so you'll need to heal the slow way."
"Sleep it off?"
"Yes."
"But it's still morning. I don't want to spend an entire day sleeping."
"Stay close to me, then. Here, take some of these," Lyla said as she handed Cath two buckets. "I need to fill these up by the river, and I could use some extra han--paws. Sorry." Cath accepted the buckets, but otherwise didn't reply, so Lyla kept talking. "I don't want to stand in water if I don't have to."
"Sure. This river doesn't have a strong current, does it?"
"No. No water Pokemon either, so you will be safe."
Cath arranged ten buckets in a triangle at the end of a flat stretch of land, each bucket on the ground, then backed away. She lined herself up carefully, then curled up and rolled towards the buckets. When she hit them, the force scattered them around and most of them fell over.
"What are you doing?" Lyla asked.
"Bowling," Cath replied as she began pushing fallen buckets out of the way. "I think those last two buckets are cheating."
"Be careful with those buckets."
"Don't worry. They're fine." The lane had been cleared of all but the two standing buckets. Cath backed away as far as she needed to, then quickly rolled out and knocked them over. Lyla began examining the buckets for damage.
"It's fun." Cath said. "You should give it a try." The buckets were a little more scratched up than they used to be, but they were still intact. If Cath hadn't damaged any of them yet, Lyla wasn't going to. Cath had placed each bucket back into formation quickly after Lyla was done inspecting them.
"Ok. When should I go?" Lyla asked.
"Whenever you're ready." Cath had climbed up a tree to get a better view. She liked high up places, Lyla noticed. Lyla hesitated for a moment, then curled up and rushed towards the buckets. All of them had fallen.
"Strike!" Cath yelled. "On your first try, too. Good job."
The pair of them spent most of the rest of that day bowling. Fortunately, there were no bucket casualties.

The horrible pun aside, I wonder how well those two would fare in Tabira. o3o Cath seems capable of handling herself, yet Lyla.. there's a big world out there...
