"Right here," Cath whispered. She drew a small x in the dirt with her claw then stepped off to the side. Lyla began digging a small hole where Cath had indicated. The team was in a lightly forested and vacant part of Tabira. They had been following a Pokemon for a while now, waiting for a chance to surprise them. That chance was coming soon: their target was about to pass through here.
"Done," Lyla said quietly. The hole's smooth sloped edges made it useful as a ramp. "Remember, you're not trying to hit her."
"Yes, I know we need her conscious for this," Cath replied. "You go first."
"I can't. I might hit her. You go."
"You're just as accurate as I am."
"Only on the ground. You're the one who tries aerial maneuvers."
"Ground-type doesn't mean you have to stay on the ground."
"This isn't about type. It's about practice. This is something you have done before and I haven't."
Cath wanted to keep arguing with her Sandshrew friend, but she noticed their target was getting closer. She needed to act.
"Ugh, whatever, I'll go." She quickly rolled away to gain speed before returning to the ramp. With its help, she was able to soar through the air with her Rollout attack. Fortunately, she landed right in the path her target had taken. Unfortunately, she had mistimed it and landed right behind her target, so her target, Chandra, didn't see it. As Chandra was unaware that Team Strike was even nearby, she hadn't noticed any part of the attack except the sounds of a soft thud of a Zigzagoon landing and a rustling of leaves as that Zigzagoon kept going and crashed into a bush. Cath quickly climbed out and tried to act like nothing bad happened. "Did you see that?" she asked.
"Hello. No, I missed it."
"What? Oh well, I'll just do it again." While Cath rolled off to try again, Lyla walked up to Chandra.
"Let me explain what she's doing," Lyla said. "We're Team Strike. You wanted to see new recruits' moves and/or abilities used in unique ways. Cath wanted to show you her favorite move, Rollout. She also wanted to surprise you with it. She's not going to come at us from the ground, though. She's going to hit a ramp and fly through the air a bit." As if on cue, Cath flew by, landing and crashing in the same spot. Chandra noticed it this time.
"Fascinating," Chandra replied. "Can I see this ramp?"
"Of course." Lyla led Chandra towards the nearby hole. Chandra was fascinated.
"Freshly dug, it seems. Odd angle choice, though. She could travel farther with a forty-five degree angle."
"You have to try that," Cath replied.
"I could, but I'm not very good with angles. I'm not sure how to measure out a forty-five degree angle."
"It should be just as tall as it is long," Chandra commented. "A bit steeper than the one you have here."
"Just as tall as it is wide..." Lyla repeated, mostly for her own sake. She quickly dug a hole with vertical walls, then carefully measured the walls to the best of her ability without any tools, measured out that distance away from the hole to the best of her ability, and cleared away dirt to make a slope. Chandra was fascinated by how quickly Lyla switched from seemingly haphazardly digging to carefully measuring and back, especially with how smooth the hole's surfaces were, even though the slope was off by two degrees.
"Ok, try that." Cath didn't need to be told twice. One Rollout later, Cath had actually landed past the bush.
"Are there any other useful angles to know?" Lyla asked.
"Forty-five will usually give you the farthest launch distance, although it may vary a bit depending on conditions. For example, if you plan to land on a surface with a higher or lower altitude than--"
"Great," Cath interjected, because nobody wanted a physics lecture in the middle of a Pokemon story. "What's a good angle for someone who needs to try this but is too scared to?"
"I'm not scared. I just see no need for this. We needed to demonstrate a move and we demonstrated a move."
"A move that you know. You should demonstrate it too."
"It would be great to see the same move used by two different people in the same circumstances."
Lyla took a deep breath to calm herself a little. "Alright then." She rolled around a bit to gain speed before hitting the first ramp. After hitting the ramp and flying, she hadn't landed quite as far away as Cath had, but after landing, Lyla bounced and went airborne again, clearing the bush. She kept bouncing along after that.
After waiting a few moments, it became clear to Cath and Chandra that Lyla wasn't coming back. "I should go stop her," Cath said as she ran off. "Thank you for your time."

By rights, no it isn't the first late folder submission, but a few people cheated for a couple weeks after chapter 1 ended.
