As with the previous Mordor map, this is not fully canonical.
I've made some changes and sought more information than Tolkien had provided.
I had to scour the net to find more info for cities, roads, etc. I made the mountain chains broader and flow differently based on my knowledge of geography so they do look a bit different than Tolkien's original. Just keep that in mind.
Over on the Cartography Guild we got into a friendly challenge between a few members to do some middle Earth maps.
I couldn't decide so I started mapping the whole of Middle Earth. It is a big task, especially done in this technique.
So I decided to to do 4 region maps and then the big map. Mordor was first and Rhovanion was second. Gondor is next.
I was going for a sort of atlas style look that was a bit homage to Tolkien's black and white map but also had more detail and information.
As there isn't much info to go on for certain land features I had to work them out for myself and that also leads to the no-canonical nature of the map. I feel like it came out well and am pretty happy with the new technique.
I'm already working on Gondor. And since I started doing the title lettering that I posted yesterday, I will also be doing something with Moria as well when time permits.
