Back Stair Street by SirInkman Back Stair Street by SirInkman
original pencil drawing

The idea behind this illustration was the concept of a nice upscale old town where all the houses look so nice in the front. But in the back, on Back Stair Street the niceties of society were exposed as cracking dilapidated facades.
The time and place are relative. It could be some fantasy village or an 1800s era town.
I colored, textured and edited it later in PS

What a nice piece! This work really makes me think of the illustration style in Professor Layton. A wonderful atmosphere to capture. You did so well!

The tile and brickwork really ties it all together. These kinds of streets are perfect for imagening late medival scenarios of various kinds. Unruly ruler, roof-running thieves or the life and times of a lone pigeon.

One note to point out was the window placement on the rightmost section. It looks elaborate and weird. The depicture is to a T in terms of streets though. Kudos, man.

I can imagine all of those things happening in Old Gilgenny, which is the city that Back Stair street is located in.

Absolutely charming! ♥ If I were to imagine the back stair area of the type of houses that I make miniature furnishings for, this would be it.

I followed your DA profile to your Etsy shop - very nice furniture pieces.
Those would definitely be inline with these sorts of structures.
I'm in PA as well. Do you have a shop or do you sell in PA?
My mom is a doll maker and I'm sure she'd love to see your work.

Thank you! :) No, I don't have a brick & mortar shop for my miniatures, although there is a dollhouse shop (with part time hours) here in Lancaster, if the owner hasn't retired yet... she's 86-ish. My minis are too much of a niche market to do well in a real store. I just sell online and do one or two craft shows a year with just my jewelry).

I need to do some more like this one.
It's fun doing all the varied windows and roofs.

I think you did a good job on that.
Very fun and whimsical. Really like the vine growing up the wall.
