::: Information about the jubilee 20th issue of the almanac "Aiglos" (Polish language issue). :::

Drodzy czytelnicy,

Do każdego numeru rocznicowego dołączona zostanie stalowa zakładka, którą wymyśliła i przygotowała nasza współredaktorka Joanna Cheda 'Niuchaczaus'. Jesteśmy wdzięczni jej tacie, który wyciął i ofiarował nam je zupełnie za darmo.
Zachęcamy Was do lektury artykułów i esejów.

Exhibition at Oxonmoot 2014, UK

Sun Jun 8, 2014, 4:58 AM
It is certain for some time now so I can confirm I will be coming to this year's Oxonmoot in Oxford in September where I got invited to exhibit my works together with other artists. Oxonmoot is an annual conference hosted by the Tolkien Society and this year Oxonmoot has it's fortieth anniversary, thus is one day longer. I'll be there for the first time. If you happen to be there let me know :)

Details of the event: www.tolkiensociety.org/events/…

Important changes since UK just passed their orphaned art bill, read of it in the article "All Your Metadata R belong to US: UK passes Orphan Works Bill, the "Instagram" Act. And you were whining about what happens to your images on Facebook." by Coleen Doran www.adistantsoil.com/2013/04/2….

"The Act contains changes to UK copyright law which permit the commercial exploitation of images where information identifying the owner is missing, so-called "orphan works", by placing the work into what's known as "extended collective licensing" schemes."

Always sign your work, watermark, paste portfolio URL. Never post images on-line without a signature. It'll get re-posted and loose all the metadata, making easy to claim it being orphaned art. Sure it's usually easy to find the original creator with Google's image search, but do not count on potential users of your art as orphaned to do a proper check, secure your art yourself.

It doesn't mean a watermark or URL has to be slapped across the image covering half of it, no, but it has to be visible enough after re-posting, re-sizing and unauthorized filtering on various sites, including YT videos. You cannot stop the flow, do not fight it but use it -people will share your art, make them share it with your name on it.
dA staff is considering to scrap the present message center and switch into message feed, a stream similar to the one at Facebook, with some advantages and IMO much more disadvantages. They want to know what we think of it, so I suggest you visit these journal entries: spyed.deviantart.com/journal/N… by spyed and  wreckling.deviantart.com/journ… in the hq group where you can learn more on the idea and leave your feedback.

"Earthlings" is a feature length documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called "non-human providers." The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator) and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby.

Mar 22, 2010  A bit of cleaning

I'm cleaning a bit my gallery, so much of old stuff. Hopefully will have a chance to clean more when a new staff appears, I've got enough of the outdated gallery. Only I need to finish all those never finished WIPs. Also I've found my wallpaper on another site, credited with my name, so I'll leave it. But of course it got there without my permission, that means I will not be adding high res wallpapers any more. LTHB wall annihilated and will not be back, sorry. BTW, I've fixed his gauntlet, if anyone is interested.

I should clean this blog, too. It's helpful to find some important dates, but on the other hand too much mess here. Of course there is even more in my flat. Erm, but I've got alibi I'm ill again/still/whatever. Hopefully I'll be OK next weekend when I leave to visit my parents, we'll see if I'll be allergic and cold in Norway, too.

But, good news - my virtual tree has grown and the program ended, 100 000 real trees will be grown :D That's only in Polish: www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid… & www.facebook.com/album.php?aid…

The other good news is I am going to listen to Howard Shore conducting live orchestra at a festival in Crackow in May: www.last.fm/event/1446399+3.+F… :excited: I've missed it in previous years, stupid me, but now I plan to listen to the Return of the Kings soundtrack in a great company of fellow JRRT fans. I'm really looking forward for this one :)

Oh yes and in May the new Anathema LP is coming, finaaaaalyyyyy www.anathema.ws/ It took them 7 years only ;) They're worse than me and my WIPs :devilish: But I love them!

Mar 3, 2010

Hello folks, I just planted a virtual tree which grows every time someone visits it's page: sirielle.posadzdrzewo.pl/ sirielle.posadzdrzewo.pl (one visit a day counted).  Within this program a real tree will be planted somewhere in forests of Poland :)
If you block scripts it may block the tree page.

:#1: Silmarillion-Club is now officially a group :D

This means it has been converted into a group account. All the previous members need to join the club again by clicking "join this group" button. Newcomers are welcomed to join the Silmarillion-Club, too :D
The club will appear in groups widget at your profile.
Don't have groups widget visible? Edit your profile page and add it with a click.

As soon as you'll be a member you can submit your artworks to the club's gallery. As you remember they are in fav gallery ATM, I'll have to empty the fav folder first. I'll get into admin area soon to arrange permissions and art submission guidelines.

What are groups?

I can't believe how dark it is here after being in a sunny place for a month.
It makes me sleepy O_o I'll write more when I'll finally wake up ;)

The feature meme will be closed shortly, so if you want to join express your interest in a separate comment.

Nov 10, 2009

Greetings from Goa, India, I'm already here. Didn't manage to update Silmarillion-Club gallery before leaving, sorry folks.
I'll be off-line till late December.
Cheers! :D

Nov 3, 2009 The Feature Meme, come and join us! >^^<

I hope my watchers want to join the fun :) There are many slots, so if I can't get 20 people now will make this meme after coming back in late December (soon I'll be off-line for a month).

More, get double featured - also by Succubus1982 who is willing to feature art of  new people she doesn't know yet. So if you're not her watcher but want to join the fun, hurry up and comment on her journal: succubus1982.deviantart.com/jo…

And sure, there is a catch - to be featured you need to make such meme, too.
Which is fun, isn't it? Let's begin! :D

:bulletpurple: The Feature Meme :bulletpurple:

Step 1 - You the watcher reply to this meme. There are 20 slots.

Step 2 - In order of replies I'll write the name of the commenter and pick one artwork from their gallery that I like best to feature.

Step 3 - The person who originally tagged me goes at #1 position automatically.

Step 4 - Once you have been listed you are officially tagged and have to do the same in your journal with me as your number one.

If you don't want to be tagged, then don't reply to the journal! (But its your loss if you're too lazy to make one little journal). If you want to take a part in fun replay here, copy rules to your journal.
Oh yes, one deviation feature is a must, but you can always add more if you want ;)

1. :iconsuccubus1982: who tagged me
Namo Nurufantur succubus1982.deviantart.com/ar… is dfinitely the best,
but I want to point you also to the Young Nerdanel succubus1982.deviantart.com/ar…
- a portrait of Nerdanel with a character.

2. :iconmoon-blossom: has got a gallery full of light and dark fairy tales. She has painted my fav portrait of Varda Elentari moon-blossom.deviantart.com/ar… so far. But that's an old work, there are many new paintings,
I like to point to Twilight Dancer moon-blossom.deviantart.com/ar…;
and In Between moon-blossom.deviantart.com/ar…

3. :iconsilmuen:'s gallery is filled with strange and mysterious creatures, again I can't choose one image only.
You definitely got to see the Red Riding Wolf silmuen.deviantart.com/art/Red…
and mysterious Masked silmuen.deviantart.com/art/Mas…
and finally my fav Sailing Over Clouds silmuen.deviantart.com/art/Sai…

4. :iconeldrianne: has got two really nice concepts in her gallery:
Who the hell is fisherman? eldrianne.deviantart.com/art/W…
On the dark side of the world eldrianne.deviantart.com/art/O…

5. :iconmeisiluosi: started series inspired by the Ancient China.
My fav in the series are Huo Du and Da Er Ba maddiel.deviantart.com/art/Huo…
but Xiao Long Nu maddiel.deviantart.com/art/Xia… demands attention, too.
Finally I can't omit one old portrait to which I've got sentiment:
Feanorians - Maedhros sketch maddiel.deviantart.com/art/Fea… - so sad, so true.

6. :iconcydienne: has got varied gallery, I love her mysterious, uneasy b&w inks the most cydienne.deviantart.com/galler…
To pick one is impossible, just an example: Dark forest cydienne.deviantart.com/art/Da…
Apart inks my fav from the newest is Moon in Melies style cydienne.deviantart.com/art/Mo…

7. :iconalqualaure: is new on dA, give her warm welcome!
She creates in various media, here are drawings and calligraphy.
First a very interesting take on Ered Wethrin - Death of Feanor alqualaure.deviantart.com/art/…
Caligraphy and Tengwar of Fëanor - Namarie alqualaure.deviantart.com/art/…
Finally there are not enough of Maglor portraits in this world,
so here is Kanafinwe Macalaure alqualaure.deviantart.com/art/…

:#1: Finally a brave man! :D But are you ready for his gallery?

8. :iconforgottendemigod:'s gallery is filled with violent and controversial imagery. Are you ready for such?
Before you'll enter remind yourself what does swastika symbolize en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika
My choices: electric Angel 2.0 forgottendemigod.deviantart.co…
Would you afraid of Christmas Demon? forgottendemigod.deviantart.co… (description!).
Finally, First to Fight forgottendemigod.deviantart.co… who, probably against artists intentions is a perfect Morgoth to me.

9, 10...20 - who's next?
Comment and get over here! :#1:
And better hurry up, I'm going off-line next Monday!

Oh, and BTW check the new Polish band Leśne Licho playing music inspired by old tales and legends www.myspace.com/lesnelicho & www.last.fm/music/Le%C5%9Bne+L…
Spiewają po polsku, więc dla Polaków będzie to zdecydowanie ciekawsze zjawisko :)
Szczególnie polecam "Topielicę" i "Panią jeziora"

Tomorrow Dikanda plays live in Szczecin, why not next week! I wish I knew of it earlier, we'll see, but I'm a bit busy.

Jun 5, 2009  "Home" - a breathtaking footage of Earth

Today is World Environment Day and release of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s documentary “Home” - a collection of breathtaking unique footage of Earth. Would be nice to watch it one day, here is more info and a trailer: liveearth.org/2009/06/world-pr…

Should I stay or should I go to Berlin? I missed the hq World Tour in Warsaw, but I live close to German border and could go to Berlin. The last minute decision is a bit crazy, I'm not prepared at all. I'm just browsing bus possibilities right now and plotting... Anyone I know is going to be there?

Edit. Just checked the bus, too risky. I would be after the time in the meeting place. So chances I'll go are weak :( Next time!

May 28, 2009  Faeries keep stealing people! ;)

The evidence is here bit.ly/sqORS and even more evidence www.myspace.com/laoris & www.last.fm/music/Caprice :D In other words - fairy tale music by Caprice
"Faeries Stole Bridget" and "Enter Laoris" are my fav ATM, the last one is available as full track at Last.fm (link given above). They've been performing at Tolk Folk some years ago, before I have learned such convention exists at all.

Ninquelen reminded me of Prikosnovénie main site where you'll find more fairy tale music www.prikosnovenie.com/inde.sht…

I suggest checking the newest Gny album, too www.myspace.com/gnydk "Beirblakken" and "To ravne" are great - full tracks here  www.last.fm/music/gny  (L.fm works better than MS)
I've seen their performance during Viking Festival in Wolin 2002, really nice people :)

BTW, I've met those guys www.tryglaw.org last Saturday :D It resulted in myself pretending a lute player ;) and may result in more good news to come :fingerscrossed:

Mar 17, 2009 Earthlings

"Earthlings" is a feature length documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called "non-human providers." The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator) and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby.

I just got Fantasyana Award :boogie: Can't give you a direct link for dA script changes it into emotes, but scroll down the main page www.fantasyana.com/index.php and you'll find it

Recently I got charmed by Russian minstrels songs

Here are songs by Aire and Saruman (Айрэ и Саруман ): whitepalm.ru/index.htm (go to mp3) & more solorecords.narod.ru/catalog/a… plus Last.fm page: www.last.fm/music/%D0%90%D0%B9… Thanks to Ninquelen for the links :thanks:
I especially like songs "Firiel" whitepalm.ru/files/Firiel1.mp3 and "Final" whitepalm.ru/files/FinalSongFi… used in animation "Firiel" based on poems by J. R. R. Tolkien. Unfortunately the animation is not available on-line, unless it's creators had it on alternative site; their own web page is gone.

Telenis (Теленис ) is another bard, here is YouTube video with her song "Ni auta Nu'menna" www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaOAke… also JRRT works inspired and here you'll find her Lp "Осада молчанием" menestreli.nnm.ru/telenis_osad… My Russian is to crappy to translate anything so here is what I've learned at that page with help of Google translator: Catherine Prognimak "Telenis" telenis.livejournal.com/ sings with a beautiful low voice, performs mostly songs inspired by works of Tolkien, in his own poems and written by other authors of the fandom. The album is recording done at her home studio. Here is her concert with Anarion elfwine.narod.ru/audio/c2005/i…
BTW, I asked Cherezo at YouTube to add art credits and it has been done (I helped to identify most of the artists). Cherezo also gave me the lyrics:

"Ni auta Nu'menna"

Последний танец у костра,
ночное море ждет и плачет...
Я не жила еще вчера,
но видишь, вышло все иначе.
Ni auta Nu'menna,
Ni auta Nu'menna,
Ni auta Nu'menna.
Скажи последнее «Прости!»,
и я взойду на крылья птицы.
Нам до утра еще грести,
а мне с тобой пора проститься.
Ni Auta Numenna,
Ni Auta Numenna,
Ni Auta Numenna.
Я отправляюсь на запад,
Я отправляюсь на запад,
Я отправляюсь на запад...

- a song about forgiving the past and leaving to the West - to the Undying Lands of Tolkien's universe.

  • Reading: tutorials
  • Watching: TVPAnimation video tutorials
  • Eating: forgot about it... again O_o
TVP Animation www.tvpaint.com/ seems to be the best. Haven't opened it yet, just watched video tutorials www.tvpaint.com/index.php?opti… But I tested a few others. Some forced me to turn them off in irritation (OK, OK - because I had no idea how to use them since the first glance ;)), some are funny and let learn basics easy, like PAP www.plasticanimationpaper.dk&n… or Pencil www.les-stooges.org/pascal/pen… (freeware). PAP can save files as numbered JPG, which can be painted in Painter and animated there, I haven't figured out how to import them back in the free version, which has got limited options. Dogwaffle www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/fr… allows to paint (freeware). Haven't checked yet DigiCel FlipBook www.digicelinc.com/flipbook.ht… www.digicelinc.com/flipbook.ht… and ToonBoom www.toonboom.com/ boiled my mind, I need to see tutorials to do anything with it ;)

Jan 8, 2009

Remember my unfinished sketchy concept of Losgar comics? I deleted it, but here is the script with more concepts and artwork for a test animation: sirielle.deviantart.com/art/Lo… Yesterday I painted and animated in Painter the first 3 comics frames (2 and half to be precise, I had to cut out the burning ships of the first frame for their awful look, need to paint them again). A lot of things has to be detailed and/or changed, but it work for testing purposes:
- test #1 pl.youtube.com/watch?v=lJuw117… with more natural animation of fire light on character's face
- test #2 vimeo.com/36116288 simplified fire light, more mimics on face, format 6x9
Watching in higher resolution recommended for better  details :)
Music used - free songs from You Tube, details in video descriptions (for some reason it doesn't work properly in high res video versions).

Script based on J. R. R. Tolkien's alternative version of the events in Losgar (burning ships of the Teleri):

"Fëanor stole the ships of the Teleri, and breaking faith with Fingolfin and with those faithful to him sailed away, leaving the rest of his host to make their way on foot with great travail and loss. The ships were anchored off the shore, in the Firth of Drengist, and all the host of Fëanor went on land and camped there."
J. R. R. Tolkien, History of Middle Earth vol. XII (page 354)

What is the best / easiest software for 2D animation?

Painter sometimes replaces frames without my agreement :O_o: It works similarly to Image Ready animation feature, I can use layers and paint directly on frames. But animation has to be done frame by frame with no delayed display option - if a frame is supposed to be visible longer has to be added a few times (by trial and error I found out how many frames do I need for movement). Painter Frame Stack File (FRM) with 868 frames weights 923 MB, it's only 37 seconds of animation (24 frames/second). It is a bit complicated to make a longer movie this way (problem of images to draw aside). I could do it in parts and only join them into one to save it as AVI, as I did here or save parts in the best quality video file and edit in a video edition software (would be easier, haven't tested, yet). But maybe there is a better software to make animations? Maybe something zooming in/out or making fade in/out automatic? It takes quite a long time to click add frame button while moving an image to get for example moving landscape animation and I see no easy way to fix mistakes (because of random frame messing by Painter) except making everything again from the start.

Edit.

OK, I can answer myself - I have found information about Plastic Animation Paper and other animation software at CGTalk: forums.cgsociety.org/showthrea… and whole animation related forums, that site is so huge I still find something new :D Here is direct link to PAP site: www.plasticanimationpaper.dk As it looks this one is free in basic variant, one can pay for more features, need to try it.

The One Million Masterpiece tutorial: www.millionmasterpiece.com/gal… It looks like 2008 calendar deadline is gone, another one I missed. But painting there is fun anyway and all you need is just a mouse :)

Anathema live in Poznań next Wednesday :D I wait for the ticket which is coming via snail mail, I hope it will come on time!

Oh, and the site is done for now, no time.

Oh well, someone finally didn't go to the Tolk Folk JRRT fans convention :( Maybe I should not reconsider at 4AM going somewhere when I have to get up at 5:30 AM. BTW, chances are I'll be exposed to terrifying music for a few days just to see Anathema live. But I'll say more if that will be certain. Or better say it afterwards, just in case I changed my mind a few hours before a start ;)

Dev6 rocks! :w00t: What a surprise! I tested beta version for some time but it didn't have all the message center features launched today.

On a not so random note, God really is an Astronaut! www.lastfm.pl/music/God+Is+an+… & www.lastfm.pl/music/God+Is+an+…

And I hear sirens, seriously www.lastfm.pl/music/i+hear+sir… Check them out

BTW, I stepped on 2001: A Space Odyssey inspired art:

This line stayed in my mind, too.

Now, maybe it's time to get back to my digital canvas! 8)

Jun 30, 2008 Anathema's "Hindsight" & conventions

Anathema's semi acoustic album "Hindsight" is ready, you can listen to previews here: www.kscopemusic.com/anathema/

It looks like a year passed very fast and Tolk Folk comes soon - 10-13 of July 2008, Bielawa, Poland www.tolkfolk.pl/index1.html I should be happy, but really this year run away too fast. Of course I'm going to be there.
Not enough? Rangers of the North organize Fornost convention 28 VII - 3 VIII 2008 in Nowy Sącz, Poland www.wladca.pl/fornost Chances I'll be there are low, unfortunately.

Oh, I've got some other plans, too, apart catching Anathema on tour somewhere near (Turkey and Romania were too far in the end) I've already got ticket and can't wait to see Sigur Rós in August in Warsaw :D Great summer is coming!

Only why is time running too fast!? :( Objection, slow down! :threaten:

Ah, more - music recommendations at Last.fm. Go and check Caspian's "Crawlspace" www.last.fm/music/Caspian/_/Cr… Amazing track! If that's not your mood than maybe Prem Joshua will be fitting? www.last.fm/music/Prem+Joshua/… add "+(full)" to the URL and you'll get the whole album (when I put it together dA script is messing the link).
No? OK, last one - Żywiołak and "O Jana Kupała" www.last.fm/music/%C5%BBywio%C… Don't grumble, make bonfires and dance  Don't miss Żywiołak live, worth seeing!

CGTalk Open Figure Drawing Workshop - hands - forums.cgsociety.org/showthrea…

Yes, a chance to draw the tricky hands, check it out! No, don't say I am not good enough to join or any other silliness I've heard - we are all there to learn. Regarding media - you can use any media you like, be it pencil, tablet or 3D sculpting. CGTalk workshops are really worth joining, you can learn in a good company

This one I can't miss, I missed too many workshops already (and I still need to polish my Angels and Demons image). Also I want to paint something to a few past events at Pixel Brush, especially "Past life" one. Not mentioning my 100 drawings list I haven't done, yet ;) Need to get to work!

Apr 6, 2008

I got to Epilogue www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/… :w00t: Finally! Maedhros did it :floating:

That's not all what he has done actually - he almost got into Exposé 6, but finally wasn't chosen. Still I count hearing a good word from Exposé editors as a success :D

BTW, Bucharest is sold out. Haven't checked Istanbul, yet. Nor the bank to rob. Eh, probably will have to wait for next tour.
Or send Maedhros to get tickets ;)

Apr 2, 2008

I need to rob a bank. Really. Other way it'll be hard to get to Istanbul and see Anathema live on 25th of April or to Bucharest on 24th of May to see Danny and Vince in an acoustic performance  Remember the pictures from my last journal? All were taken in Istanbul during past Anathema's gigs. It's a sign I should go there ;D

I know! I need a scroll of teleportation :D
Anyone willing to lend me one? :flirty:

But enough of whining over my empty treasury - a massive art plug!
