Especially for *Nifrodel Onyx became one of Laiquendi elves of Ossiriand. Nifrodel gave him name Olosind - Dreamer (Nandorin/Silvan: olos - dream; ind - heart, mood, mind).

Edited 15.II.2007.

"Laiquendu an Nifrodel" - "(Male) Laiquendi elf for Nifrodel", Quenya (though 'Nifrodel' itself must be Sindarin name).

Other Lindar (called Teleri by the Noldor)

Mimo to jestem z niego zadowolona :)

Do forgive me if I find it a bit hard to keep track of all your versions... ;)
However, he's lovely. The modelling of the face is great. The eyes look weird in a wonderful sort of way - icy, brilliant. Are you happy with them? Oh, soften the eyebrows a little if you get the chance - the hairs look a bit too sharp.

The second URL is wrong - here: [link]

And the "old" one on this image [link] gave his noise back to the present final variant, as Nifrodel wanted, while the one in the middle there is my fav ;)

Don't worry, no one can ;) Here are some summaries if you're curious: [link] & [link];postdays=0&;postorder=asc&start=45

I like his eyes, yup :D But still these are not the elven eyes different than humans, haven't found out how to make them, yet.
And I really like his face, especially the older one (visible on the first link in the middle). As I said before - almost like a young Fingon. But not the same, just reminds him.

I decided to leave him the way he is, though some more fixing might be done. Like the brows you noticed - sharper than eyelashes. In fact I messed a bit with eyelashes and they are simply not painted sharply as brows are.
I posted him yesterday to Epi gallery as a check - how far is he in technical aspect, haven't posted tehre for a half year or more (to gallery, not forums,; non of my works ever passed there, yet). I wonder what rejection reason he'll get, for I don't feel he'll pass. Probably "need minor touch ups", I hope not for light as no one advised me how to change it for better. Though I am nitpicker, I saw more blurry works at Epi. Hmm, we'll see.

Anyway I don't think I'll fix him more, not even the brows now, but thank you for noticing that :)
Nifrodel liked him even before, it was me who wanted to fix this and that, though finally I enlarged his eyes for her and someone else who advised it.

I have Onyx to fix, yet. I'll try to make that other guy's brows softer ;) especially that I'm tired and maybe will post over his face the previous Olosind, just with minor alternations ;)

What changes he needs more - do you see any?
Someone told me I made the lighter part of his nose too dark, like the light was coming from the top not top right corner. Hmm. I'm thinking of detailing him more, though not in this version, got another one with silver hair - and sent somewhere, deadline is in the end of February. I probably have no chance, but I will never learn if I will not try ;) I always say "oh, no chance' and don't try.
I'll see if I can make anything more interesting and less static, if co I'll put a WIP on Epi to discuss.

yeah I can see...well, ok, i'll say it here then. the 'mistakes' that stands out to me the most is that I can't figure out where the light source really comes from. His forehead and cheeks say top, but his nose is like, from the right

I just noticed on b&w version that I messed it. Though someone told me that his nose is lit from the top! Funny ;) Nifrodel wants me to fix a bit this guy (come back to old nose, uh), so I'll change light here to the top one, I guess that will be the best. While sepia will be lit from a side - here are both in b&w to compare [link] on the left, color on the right).
And that's what I want to do - 'Snowqueen' [link] ;) but I guess I should repaint it into head tilted down, so making a new face would be better. Or I'll end up with the same face again. Don't know how to make frozed skin and hair, yet ;)

hello! sorry for the late ish reply! I can see only a slight different in the cheekbone shading in the comparison bw paintings. and Ooh, you've icequeened him! I like the way he looks so far, I know that you're going to refine them further, but I don't know what kind of look you're going for, because right now he looks a bit greyish and elderly. Maybe is because the skin tone is pretty monotonous at the moment(although I can see you put turquoise in the highlights), so if not then incorporate brighter colours in his skin tone, but in accents. It really helps make him look less ...old. [link] this is what I mean..see how Linda puts in a bit of pink, a bit of blue but it comes out a nice shade of cold, neutral coloured skin.

I just changed him again - the Olosind-elf in blue hues - larger eyes and older nose. And I wonder if you said about adding the the pink colour for the "elf" version on dA or for the future "snow-queen"/old Onyx one one? I tried to add pink, but failed. Maybe after I'll have some sleep, I stayed up for the whole night again.
I already sent Nifrodel the latest version and if she likes it I'll put it on and leave as it is. But if you'll have a time to play, you can do the paintover - I'll have it for future. He is not that blue anymore, though.

I agree on coloring, especially for alive being. I will have to make a completely new drawing for the snowqueen, I think, with head more tilted down (maybe like here [link] I guess he has inspired me a bit, but I noticed it after I did the test). Skin - it must be frozen, with crystals of ice on it, though I will add a bit of pink in highlights or midtones, he should not look like alive being out of flesh, rather a mixture of ice and alive being. That's what I wish I could do.
On the liked test image it's simply old Onyx' face with a silver hair layer, rather a test how it could be like. As always I was plying with the image when I got tired of fixing it and got a new idea this way. I want him to have these long hair on brows. He should look like old and young the same time, I guess. Not elderly, but not a youth, with an age you can't tell.
I am not sure if I am capable to paint it, though ;)

Hmm... napewno może to byc elf, ale... ;)

To musi byc wyjscowy stroj, na codzien widze Laiquendich w wygodnych naturalnych ubraniach - skora, welna, bawelna - i w naturalnych kolorach lasu. Racja - on troche przypomina wampira, szczegolnie w sepii gdzie ma calkiem rozjasnione teczowki :D
