A pretty known website, that has been advertised on TV (more specifically on HGTV) art4love.com is now being known for stealing artwork of others and SELLING them for hundreds of dollars!

This is truly outrageous and VERY illegal! I have personally been able to identify thefts of some artists, and have contacted them.

To give an example of this theft...take this piece from their site: www.art4love.com/canvas_art/wa…
Now head on over to a more well-known artist here on dA and take a look at their Deviation: ironshod.deviantart.com/art/Dr…
Now notice how the website's product has cropped out the artist's artwork.

I noticed this right away, because I have long since admired this artist.

Other Information

Now I am not putting this here for "flame wars", but I want this community to be well aware of this situation and how serious it is. They aren't simply claiming art as their own, but they are SELLING IT. This could land MANY lawsuits for these people at the site and even jail time.

www.art4love.com/canvas_art/..…

Please, if you notice any artist's work at this site...please let them know asap!

We need to put a stop to this disgusting display!

As an artist it is nearly impossible to prevent your art from being hijacked. Be smart and copy protect your online images so when these kinds of people steal your art. you can prove beyond a doubt to the authorities they have stolen your art. Play it smarter, make them work harder to steal your art, and eventually it becomes unprofitable for them and they'll quit doing it. BTW =Sirfy, the site is closed down when I checked the link so good work shutting them down... But stay alert because they will try again.

That is true. The center watermark makes it harder to steal but not impossible. I watermark the whole image... It makes my fans crazy but it proves to too much work for a ripper to "paint over it" and they do not bother. It is not fool proof but it works for me.

This is a very bad situation. I, and so many others, put countless hours of work into our "deviations" in order to give joy to other people - not to have our work stolen. I'm wondering whether dA could give us some advice on how to minimize the risk to ourselves - and also whether some changes could be made to the dA site itself. For example, I'd like to have the option, on my page, of disabling right-click saving of my art. I realize that the art could still be saved in other ways, but this would be a discouragement. I think we need better dA watermarks too, and a choice of several different ones. I'd like to see some watermarks that are effective without defacing the art. I feel that I really need some good, solid advice on the art theft matter. I've almost become afraid to put my art on dA.

[link] I don't know if this will help or not, but a few people and myself have reported him on this scammer/fraud site. The site contacts you after a few days and directs you to the right authorities or deals to the authorities themselves. Its actually quite useful and has helped alo in the past with scams and frauds.
We need to catch this guy people!

Btw nice article :)

When you report him, his real name, isn't chad lieberman, it is Craig Pravda.

hmmm ... he seems to be the nephew of democratic presidential candidate joseph lieberman. so, lieberman should be right.

It's not, trust me. It's an alias, I don't even know if that guy has a nephew by that name AND he isn't the presidential candidate. He didn't even make it past primaries. Either way, one of the names is a fake and I'm willing to bet the one tied in with the most illegal activity is the fake one. Google Craig Pravda. I also called the number that was on the art for love site. Not the 1-877 number, but the one he had up before that. The voicemail clearly said that I had reached "Craig" not chad. I didn't catch the last name. I tried to listen to it again and by the time I called back, the message had been changed to exclude his name. If you search Craig and Markyourspot together... you find Craig Pravda, founder of markyourspot.com Craig Pravda and Chad Lieberman are the same person. His other possibly legit business site, has the same number I got from the art site before he changed the number.

I did a bit of a google on this guy, he's involved in multiple scams. I've been robbed, and my mother, is always falling for scammers like this, and friends here on deviant art, have been robbed, so I take it a bit personally, despite that I'm too unpopular unknown or whatever for him to have stolen my art. Sigh. Anyway, also seems to be involved with Evol Records, same address as that listed for art4love.com, Park Avenue in NYC. Dunno if they're legit or not, but, I guess it's possible that not everything he sells is stolen, but, who knows.

the scam itself was very legit, disgustingly enough. The guy should land alot of time in jail, refund all money, and pay the artists their due for the artwork that was bought

I don't think we should automatically assume the TV thing to be true (unless you've got a video of the program). The site has the HGTV logo on it, but he probably just put that there to make himself seem more legit. The MoMA logo is also there, do you really think the Museum of Modern Art would associate itself with this site? He also lists Christian Dior (no way the iconic fashion designer would buy from him) as a client as well as Susan B. Anthony (a civil rights activist who died in 1906).

I think it's great that you're spreading the word, the more people who know the better. But there is a lot of information flying around that can't be verified, and just taking it at face value can makes things get out of hand.

whether it was advertised on TV or not really isn't the point, nor matters at all. The incredibly illegal acts are. Not sure if saying it was advertised on tv is something anyone really cares about ;)

I fully understand how serious this is, and have been doing my best to help by going through the images and notifying artists whose work I recognize.

I think though, that if this is going to be investigated effectively, we should keep the facts as straight as possible. What's true can easily get lost if the information isn't really examined before it is passed on.

You have to replace art4love in the URL with 67.90.44.118 (which is their IP address) on each page to access it. They're definitely being sneaky.

It looks like most, if not all, of the work they're selling is stolen. None of the pictures displayed have any mention of the artist who created it, and neither do they have signatures, which would normally be expected if they were selling original, legitimate artwork.

I wonder what they would say if you called them up and asked them if you wanted to know a particular artist so you could see some of their other work...
