Description

** Hello, everyone! I just want to say how thankful I am for the Daily Deviation. I am really truly sorry that I can't reach out to every single one of your to say a personalized "thank you", but please believe me, I really appreciate all of your support! **

I don't usually do art trades and I have never done an art trade with papercutting before. But there's got to be a first in anything, right?
So this is an art trade that I'm doing with the incomparable :icondaegfire: fav.me/d8zw004 And before I forget... please go visit her artwork. She's imaginative and highly skilled. You won't be disappointed.

We had a long conversation regarding this art trade project. Even when we are both paper-cutters, we belong in two different schools, so to say. And I fall in to the more traditional side of things. Sometimes, I feel like it's a bit of a dying art and easily pigeon-holed into being "ethnic, traditional and non-innovative". It's a bit disheartening at times. But my friend here actually likes this part of my repertoire and specifically asked for something traditional. That pretty much made my day... no, week! I was riding high on fumes when I had this one done. So hopefully, she'll love it as much as I had fun making it happen.

This one's for you, my friend.

Artist's Note
1. Pattern credit: The subject here is a Qilin, one of the mystical animals of the Far East. It's known as "Kirin" in Japan and "Girin" in Korea. This is the symbolic incarnation of the virtues of benevolence and mindfulness. More information can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qilin The actual design, however, was partially inspired by this 1997 Commemorative 10-Yuen silver coin issued in China: www.pandaamerica.com/details.a…
2. Equipment: Cutting board, artisan cutting blade (#11)
3. Paper: Main body: Recollections Card Stock by Michael's Inc. (65lbs/176gsm). Background: Japanese Chiyogami. Layering: Clear Dura-Lar film, 0.10", produced and distributed by Grafix Films, USA.
4. Size: 20.5cm x 21 cm (8" by 8.27")
5. Time: Took a while. More so for gathering suitable material. Can't even tell you how long this one took!
