Are you familiar with Wonder Project J2 on the N64? Now you are.

You're welcome. Meow :3

I'm working on a larger project right now and I'm probably not going to be uploading much for a bit until its done.
Josette has been on my back burner for a while and I brought her up to practice some details and I ended up doing a whole background along with everything.

Like always... * Feedback is always more appreciated than :+fav: *

Yeah, I see she's wearing the Asuka creme yellow dress for the time being. I bet that she'll love to live out in the country of no asphalt roads of gravel rocks and squishy dirt to stimulate her nerve endings when being outside.

It is most likely like so! ;) She's sent away into the countryside in order to avoid capture.

I think they're more like cloth pegs or something! :lmao:

She's a robot you have to walk through her own adventure. She's got some quirky design choices!

I didn't knew of that film! :lmao:

But she's kinda dead on, even down the clothes peg on her hair! This cutie swept my heart long ago on a magazine and months ago I found out that the game had an unofficial translation to English, so I gathered some stuff of her with time and practicing for a larger project I got cracking with a background too. I'm glad that you liked it! She's got a happy-go-lucky attitude in-game, so I can't picture her otherwise while she gives us a good look at her best assets!

Thanks brother! :handshake: I'm glad that she's a welcome sight on my skills!

I hope I didn't overdid it with the colors and stuff. I was nearly afraid when making this background... at first it was my regular girl, just posing without background, then among my reference screenshots (because the art of this girl is quite scarce) had this particular background which looked somewhat easy to do for me. Not as easy once the task started, but I could get an abstract sense of how could I pull it off and went all the way!

I see. :)
I think it turned out quite nicely; it compliments the character quite well.
And the use of contrasting color of red up by her face really draws your attention to her eyes and face.
Overall, very well done. :)

Another divine obscurity, brought to you by King Obscure himself XD Well between you and one other guy on here at least :P

Simply adorably, with a comfortable pose and a rather relaxing background. Feels like I'm coming to her for some kind of advice XD Very damn cute indeed! Also curious about your other project now ;3

Indeed, my brother! :D

I'm glad that you're fond of the details! That background took some work, but I think I got as much as the reference I had right and hopefully anyone familiar with the game can kinda recognize it! If you play emulators, the game is patched to English now: www.seiyuu.info/wpj2/

Thanks, I hope I can keep it up! The game is what you can call a "raising simulation"... kinda like Idol Master, The Sims or Tomodachi Life (to name a few), you have not to control Josette, but interact with her in order for her to learn new things and get accustomed to human interactions so she can advance the plot.

The first game existed on the Super Famicom and the sequel (where Josette appears) is on the N64. It was one of the last projects of this particular developer before folding. Somehow it gained a following and someone went lengths to translate it fully to English!

Updated forms of the game (with FMVs and voice acting) were to exist on PlayStation and mobiles, but the company died before it could do anything more to it and I can't confirm (no matter how hard I search) that the game actually went mobile at all (but news site reporting that it would eventually). So, if you want to enjoy both games: you'll either have to emulate or buy reproduction cartridges. Both physicial copies can be unofficially bought at Etsy. ;)

You really do like the most obscure mediums out there XD You're giving props to the underrated gems, but wow I actually thought I had obscure tastes :P

Its a nice looking little game, might give it a try when I don't have a billion other games to play

You can't go more obscure than me. :lmao: Even among my friends, I'm still well acquainted with a lot of old school games.

During the late 90s (at the start of the emulation scene) I was a junkie of downloading and collecting all the games I didn't play on my younger years with consoles and I basically ended up getting intimate with a lot games and some so obscure that pretty much no one who didn't dip its toes into other something that the mainstream wouldn't even know. As of late, I probably rolled my fingers at mostly all the NES/SNES/GB/MS/GENESIS catalogue I could get my hands on (not on existence, that would be too much) and played from the mainstream to the obscure.

I think I've done a bit of obscure girls now and in the past, but it is probably just the tip of the iceberg of what I could actually do!

Bad Street Blondies by simplyNTK

This could be probably one of those examples. We all know Maki (FF is mainstream as it gets), but not Rosa, which comes from a fairly obscure beat 'em up that most of my commenters didn't even knew it existed.

I know that game, it was only released on japan.

The animation and art style was really good for that time
and Josette the girl you see in this pic was created by Dr. Geppetto.

You're absolutely right, brother. :D The game was pretty ambitious and nice at the time. Too bad it didn't came here (when it was hot), or else she would have probably found a larger fanbase! Nevertheless, there's always one with the appreciation for dark characters to make her!

And it's a Japanese exclusive game? Where have you heard of it for the first time?

simplyNTK Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I reckon it was from a magazine maybe one year or two after the game's release. The magazine always had a section for obscure/japenese games that never made it to this side of the puddle (things on N64 like the Evangelion game and Sin & Punishment which they always recommended as a hot import since it was on English).

It is exclusive. Supposedly a PlayStation and Mobile versions where planned with updated graphics and most likely FMVs with voice acting (something the PSX was capable of more than the N64), but neither were released as of today. The developer company folded and Squeenix remained with the rights.

Interesting. It's great to bring something obscure into the scene. I did the same thing with a Japanese version of Yoshi's Tetris Attack.
