for something short that's not too deep i'd recommend; - tsuritama - kuragehime - baccano! - cromartie high school - samurai champloo (has some layers of history on it but you're also ok without that knowledge) - barakamon - saint young men - baccano! (similar to durarara!! but less complicated in my opinion (same staff/author)) - tokyo godfathers - tengen toppa gurren laggan - arakawa under the bridge - ao no exorcist (somewhat school like tho (but then for exorcists?)) - michiko & hatchin
for something longer but still not too deep; - jojo's bizarre adventure - one piece (however i def understand if you rather not, but if you do end up liking it you'll be hooked) - gintama (layers and layers of references) - shirokuma cafe
they're both really good!! really recommend finishing them (or starting at some point where you at least remember what happened)
michiko and hatchin is really really good in my opinion, i really loved the animation (also the opening is so good, especially the visuals)
hoNESTLY JOJO IS ALWAYS SOMETHING I KINDA RECOMMEND TO PEOPLE (though i recommend reading it over watching it for the full experience, but it's whatever tickles your fancy ofc! davidpro does a p good job either way (be ready for amazing colour schemes, especially psychedelic ones)) gintama i'm not entirely through myself tho but it's something you can just watch without needing too much context so you can take your time on it which is nice
They all sound so good! But damn man Jojo it really got me curious now! Ive seen some screenshots its super funny w/o context i bet itll be even more hilarious WITH the context hahaha! Thanks for these recommendations and.... is your icon from jojo or something??
(long post i am sorry huhuhu but these are fairly new and good ones~! these aren't romance or even if the charas have crushes that's not the focus) This isn't an anime yet, but there was an announcement that it will be produced by Production I.G. this year!! It's called Welcome to the Ballroom.
The manga is on hiatus because the artist got sick I think? but there's volumes worth of chapters already, each being pretty long. If you like underdog charas who start out with zero confidence and slowly grow to take on bigger and bigger tasks, then Tatara will definitely be your next son/cinammon roll haha. He's just a wimpy middle-schooler with not much friends or goals in life until he discovers ballroom dancing. Of course, the other dancers he meets help him develop as a person, and he helps them as well. Beautiful art, backgrounds too (which is probably why the mangaka got sick huhu).
Not an anime but the manga Dungeon Meshi is pretty fun.
After being defeated by a dragon, group of adventurers have to hurry back down to the lower levels of the dungeon so they can revive one of their party members who got eaten, before said party member gets digested. To save time and money, they decide to live off of the dungeon, eating its monsters and plants, and monster plants. Not romance, but lots of fun times (and interesting food!) and more sprinkles of plot as you get deeper into the dungeon owo)b
If you want something that's more of mystery/thriller, there's The Promised Neverland. A new shonen jump manga which doesn't feel very shonen jump-like, or even shonen at all haha (art and plot-wise).
It's the usual kids-in-an-orphanage-that's-not-actually-an-orphanage scenario, but the way they handle it is pretty different. For one, the kids didn't just decide to escape as soon as they found out about the secret; the focus in the current arc is really just how they're planning to escape. They were raised to be very intelligent, so they do their best to plan out the best way to escape and survive outside. Though it's not easy because the "mama" of the orphanage is also insanely smart.
For slightly more shonen-like (I guess it reminds me a bit of Inuyasha?) manga series, there's Kimetsu no Yaiba owo)b
The story is the usual boy's-family-gets-attacked-but-one family-member-lives-so-they-take-up-a-sword-and-try-to-find-a-way-to-save-them, but I find the characters to be very lovable, and so is the art style. The protagonist, Tanjiro, is very young and often has a very hard time fighting, but he also has this "i'm the eldest i gotta do my best ;w; " attitude. One of the side charas is a shirtless kinda buff boy who wears a boar head and rams into doors screaming "PIG ASSAULT, PIG ASSAULT!". A lot of funny moments. Though there are also feels and creepy parts because they fight really weird demons.
U GOT ME AT SHIRTLESS KINDA BUFF BOY HAHAHAH but oh gosh out of all of them The Promised Neverland sounds the most interesting! and yes i do need new a cinnamonroll son <333 Thank you for the recommendations cant wait to check them out!
I guess all anime fans kind of are in their own way. Hm, thinking again, I guess One Punch Man is good, idk if you have seen that, but its written by the same dude as Mob Psycho 100. My fave anime is Princess Tutu, but that kind of falls in the high-school romance genre, which I know you aren't looking for.
SLKDJFKDS I WILL TRY MY BEST TO SQUEEZE SOME TIME IN TO MAKE ONE HUHUHUHU!!!!
oh mAn such a hard question;;; hmmmmmm i obviously love Midoriya :3c but i know theres so many more characters in the manga that i am yet to fall in love with HMMMMGGGGG so for now i guess my fav is midori XD
ahhh yay! QvQ Everyone in Haikyuu is super precious, but I've got to say that Sugawara is my favorite. Too bad the poor bby doesn't have the chance to play much. Yeah, HxH is a real classic. ^^ I love Killua, too, but I think my fave is actually Kurapika, and then Killua is a close second. Out of the antagonists, though, I've got to say that Hisoka is a problematic fave. :'D
Gintama = Crazy comedy drama, a lot of references and jokes. Slow start, but gets good by the 4th episode. Zankyou no Terror = Short, Serious drama with lots of deep subplots and relationships. Has a smudge of romance. Ending will most likely end you.
jojos bizarre adventure is kind of like a shitpost in anime form. it's so ridiculous that i can't help but love it and it's really just. tons of fun, until you get to the end of every season, when it suddenly decides to get serious™ and Start Killing Characters (be warneD)
