I support 2D animation stamp by Silvolf I support 2D animation stamp by Silvolf
For all you folks who are sick of non-stop CGI movies, show your support of 2D animation with this stamp! Don't let 2D die out!

I threw the colours together ranomly, I just wanted to get a stamp that you could see the writing fairly clearly while still making it pretty and not all in the same font.

Feel free to put it in your journal or display it on your site but give me credit if you do ^_^

To put it in your journal write this :thumb48917678:

2D animation is not dead or forgotten.

You guys seem to enjoy ranting about it instead of doing something! ;)

Why do they always have to revamp classic series like Bob the Builder into 3D?  It won't make anymore popular! Even Kirikou gets the same treatment! Angered Don't get me wrong, 3D got it's own charm, but damn it, stop ruining children shows with unwelcomed 3D!

This being said, some remakes are not bad.

I totally agree. CGI is awesome in its own right but it's sad when they have to revamp classics in CGI. Admittedly it's easier than stop motion, which Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam etc used to be in but it's still annoying. I hope the generation of today will get to see the sort of shows I grew up with. Although it's sad how they've "updated" some series to make them fit in with today's culture. Again I can understand why they've done it but it makes me a little sad.

There is purpose for 3d, however, I totally agree that people are overusing the 3d brand too much. They just create 3d animation films because it's a lot more cost effective than 2d. That is when true art really dies.

Oh god i can't tolerate this cgi shit anymore. when i was kid growing up i was more drawn to animation then live action. 2d hade great storylines to be honest with you. i might make my own animated series with anthoromorphic characters scary monsters from mythology, cannibalism homosexuality tabo subjects child abuse freaky villians, emonaitail suffering of the characters ghosts angels vampires demons and of course there will be beautiful moments sex lighthearted moments happy stuff not overly cutsy wutsy.

Yes, support 2D!

It can do things 3D can't (and vice versa) so they should coexist. Instead 2D is dying in light of the shiny, new technology...

A technology that has limited ability to show facial expressions (not good in cartoons) and a tendency to dip far too often into the "Uncanny Valley".

I agree! Glad someone else has noticed the facial expressions problems CGI has too. I find the characters never seem to move their mouths naturally. I like 2D cartoons with 3D backgrounds like Titan AE, it just seemed to work even though the critics hated it.

It is not really a problem with CGI, it is a problem with cutting down cost and render time. 3D can do natural facial expression but to most producer they see it as being more time consuming with animating and rendering and more money spent on paying the animators. What I miss more of is stopmotion and they do that less than 2D. But I don't think 2D will die out fully and someday it may come back again. There is still a lot of countries that still use 2D besides 3D. If any animation is close to dying out it is stopmotion but no one seem to complain about that.

I think stop motion is time consuming too. I enjoy both stop motion and 2D animation. There are plenty of 2D series on TV but as for movies, they all seem to be CGI now.

I actually can make stopmotion faster than I can make 3D. The main problem with stopmotion is the cost of the materials to build the sets and characters. 3D takes a lot of time to make the models, textures, correcting the UVs so the texture looks rights, and making sure the weight are right on the skins and bones. 3D sometimes seem to take forever when you are making it. It takes me about a month to do a 3D short and about a week or two to make a stopmotion short. But cost is what is important to movie making so stopmotion does not get used that often because of its cost.

Hmm that's interesting. So while stop motion seems faster to make, it isn't used as much because it is more expensive. I actually have a book by Aardman studios about claymation and I haven't read it for years, I should take another look at it!

The only stop motion I know of that took longer to make than 3D was "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and that is because they made that one extremely detailed. Most stopmotion is not that detail so it is faster to make. Aardman studio is neat studio. I always like the Creature Comforts they did. They had a fire in their warehouse in 2005 and a lot of their old props, models, and sceneries were destroyed.

I love The Nightmare Before Christmas! I think it's a classic stop motion movie.
Yes I heard about the fire, it's very sad. Aardman is a few hours away from where I live and I wanted to go to Bristol School of Animation but sadly it was too expensive so I never did.

Actually, I really hate those, too. The characters always look so out of place in the backrounds that it absolutely kills any suspension of disbelief I might have held.

But I'm picky and could rant all day about animation. :D
