Samhain Fairy

Samhain is the traditional Celtic holiday from which we get our Halloween. It is the time when the veil between our world and the underworld is thinnest and the spirits of the dead can enter into our world. Many of our traditional Halloween customs stem from Samhain. Instead of Jack-o-lanterns (because they did have pumpkins) people would carve turnips and make lanterns out of them to help frighten away evil spirits. Wearing costumes was done to hide from the spirits of the dead of those they have wronged who might return seeking revenge. Giving out candy derived from leaving treats as offerings to spirits of friends and family members who may come back to visit.
