Usually over 300, but I have my menu splintered so I get the illusion of having less things I need to comment on. :omg:

That's one way to cut the stress :XD:

Gotta stay sane somehow. :stare:

I've actually unwatched my groups :ashamed: Not completely. Just the deviations, I still receive all the journals and news.

I used to have thousands before I did that. But I also had a lot that were group messages from when I was an admin in some really active groups. Now, I just receive deviations from individuals I watch and browse groups when I'm looking for something new deviation wise and receive "news" through my message center.

I do the same thing for some groups. Some of them have really good bulletins, but I don't care to get all the deviations.

At any given time it's usually between 50-100 but I probably go through just under 1,000 messages a day.

Mine is usually between 200-500, on a daily basis. But I watch a lot of groups because that's how I find individuals whose work I enjoy. Being a typical student, sorting through all the deviations is just one of many ways to procrastinate for me :XD:
I do read all of the journals and news that come through my inbox and feedback messages too!

I think deviations are where the bulk of the problem seems to be for most people. All the other message types seem fairly easy to get rid of quickly.

I typically have a couple thousand. But that's mainly because when I'm at uni, I rarely have time to check anything, so it all builds up until the summer.
SilverInkblot's avatar
Yeah, I imagine that's a problem for many. I won't let mine build up.

I don't even consider it a problem for me. I mean, it's a matter of prioritizing - I don't think I've ever made it a secret that while I like dA, school and other websites are far higher on my list of importance. When I have free time, I can get through a couple thousand messages a day. When I don't, I don't really worry about it.

...I don't see why people get that worried. Other than feeling awkward replying to comments super late, do people really care if you comment on there works a few months after they posted?
SilverInkblot's avatar
It bugs me  It's like replying to a conversation after spacing out for a few minutes. I'd rather not have ten thousand things cluttering up my inbox - I need to be able to find things and do things and conduct interviews and find DLD suggestions. Letting any one thing build up messes with all of that. It's easier to never let it get to that point than it is to try and clean up the mess.

 I think it's personal thing - I tend to reply to conversations after spacing out all the time, so it doesn't bother me for being like that. I find that if I start trying to organize things in my messages though - putting them in folders and such - I just end up overwhelmed and in tears, because the organization has to be perfect and I don't have time to do that. So...extremely different ways of inner brain workings?
SilverInkblot's avatar
The only explanation :P I couldn't live without my folders.

I usually have 50-100 unless I'm gone- when I was in Okinawa for two weeks, I had around 1,000. DX I follow a lot of people, though, and I admin for a few groups, so I've got group messages in addition to regular ones.

I keep my Watch list on a tight leash, so I never get that high; even if I left for a while, I doubt it would ever come anywhere close to four digit numbers.
DNA-The-Authoress's avatar
There are quite a few people I watch because we're friends, and then there are the writers, and then there are the artists. So It's gotten pretty big. XD

I always uncheck deviations for most of the groups I follow, and I don't follow very many people, so I have about 5-10 a day. If I'm away for a week, I might break 50.

You and I have similar strategies

Usually 500-1000, but if I miss some days, even over 1000 o.o I hate having so much messages: I can't see all the art and read all the journals or polls D:
SilverInkblot's avatar
I'm thinking about writing an article on how I keep my own message so low, which is why I'm polling; would you be interested in that? Assuming you can find the time to read it in-between all the other messages :XD:
runningfreely's avatar
Haha, sure, I'm interested :aww:
