“Yo, Knux!” Sonic caught sight of his echidna friend from the bottom of the altar’s stairs and ran up to check on him. “Tails and I were wanting to play a game against the Chaotix! We need a third player, and… You okay, man?”
“Not really,” Knuckles said somberly, turning away from Sonic as he wiped a stray tear away. “I… just broke up with Rouge.”
“What?! Why?!” Sonic nearly dropped the half-eaten chili dog he held.
“She’s in love with Shadow… and I’m almost certain he’s in love with her,” Knuckles replied firmly. “Rouge told me so. She didn’t want to break up with me… so I did them a favor and broke up with her.”
“That’s a weird-ass favor, Knux… but I think I follow you,” the blue hedgehog replied. He sighed and took a seat next to the red echidna. “That was really big of you, man. You sure this is what Rouge wants?”
