You know the old saying "be nice to me or I'll put you in my novel" ?

This was a lot like the first few years of junior high and highschool for me. The roly-poly girl was a real person, and though it was in study hall that she decided to insult me
(and my sketchbook), I did have to sit next to her at lunch for a semester.

I stopped being "friends" with that group of people in 10th grade or so (in truth, I think they stopped truly being friends with me by the end of 6th grade but let me stick around them for some reason). Because my interests included fantasy, writing, and art. Theirs didn't. Their interests included things that were definitely illegal for minors to be doing. Mine didn't.

My advice to anyone still in highschool is don't try to change yourself to be "cool" in others eyes, do what you enjoy and who cares what they think. Eventually you'll be out of highschool and can find people who share a like of what you like.
