Welcome to the Quenta Silmarillion, sit yourself down by the fire and hear the stories of old.

The Silmarillion-Club is a group on deviantART centred around the early events from the world created by J. R. R. Tolkien: from the beginning of time up to the ending of the II Age of Sun, described in The Silmarillion, The Unfinished Tales, The Children of Húrin and The History of Middle-Earth.

I was just wondering recently, while moving a lot of the artworks you submit, from one folder to another: how much time does it take to click on the scroll down list and choose the correct folder, while submitting stuff, instead of just clicking "Submit"? The scroll down list with the names of folders is on the top of the submission box.

Just as a reminder, the list of folders is as follows:
:bulletred:Ainulindale ar Valaquenta - The Music of the Ainur and Account of the Valar
:bulletred:Quenta Silmarillion - The History of the Silmarils
:bulletred:Quenta Attea Rando - The History of the Second Age
:bulletred:Exar - Other
:bulletred:Sarme - Calligraphy
:bulletred:Tanwe - Crafts (3D works)
:bulletred:Parma - Writings (texts)
:bulletred:Alasse - Humour

These names are in quenya, the High Elves' language - is it too confusing?

Some points to make things perfectly clear:
(I'll add to the list if you ask about anything else in your comments)

:bulletred:all fanfiction goes to Parma, whatever it is about

:bulletred:Sarme is calligraphy (including family trees, if presented nicely); Parma is fanfiction, of course based on "The Silmarillion".

:bulletred: On costplay and 3D works:
If you take a photo of a doll that you have made or of the doll's clothes that you have made, it goes to the Tanwe. Same with costumes and accessories made by you, and anything really, whatever you made to show off your skills.

If it's costplay or any photo that is meant to show a scene or settings, like an illustration - and this is the main focus - it goes to the specific folder (Ainulindale, Quenta Silmarillion, Quenta Attea Rando)

Well... if I would like to show a photo dressed up doll as a Silmarillion character (Luthien, for example), which folder should that go to? The same with human cosplay: a photo of a character presented by my friend goes to the thematic gallery, doesn't it?

I must say that the names in Quenya are confusing (to me at least), but once you enter the galleries and read the description it is pretty clear what must go in every folder. Sometimes people are in so much hurry to submit something that they don't care to read the submission guidelines nor take some time to explore the galleries. It happens in a lot of groups. The best thing is to decline them and tell them to submit it in the right folder, definitely.

Hmmm, too much work - decline (which takes voting), then vote again. We just move it to a right folder. But yes I guess we'll have to reject such misplaced submissions from people who do not respect our time and send submissions to Ainulindalë all the time, no matter guidelines nor our feedback.

Maybe people just don't recognize one tale from another?

Honestly, how can you know Silm well enough to get inspired by it, and NOT recognize Valar from Elves? I mean, a mistake between First and Second Age - that could be just a wrong click in a hurry, but when a 3D work - that should go to a separate folder, not depending on the tale - goes into Valaquenta... :-X

Honestly? Every second fangirl knows either the story of Beren and Luthien or of the Idril/Tuor/Maeglin triangle, yet I'd give my wings and claws away - they don't even care for example who Luthien's mother was, and so on...
And the names of the folder can be really confusing. Even I - familiar with not only Silm, but with HoME too (ask Dawn Felagund, she knows), have to look into the translations, as I have no time to learn Quenya properly.
But perhaps in most cases people are just lazy and do not care. Decline and ask to resubmit into another folder (in the comments under decline)

As ~Alqualaure said - name translations are given in folders, as well as in guidelines. Everyone can choose wrong folder by mistake (I've done it many times myself), but if someone does it all they time? Also one should check the club they submit to, it's gallery. At least to make sure they want their works in such a company ;)

Perhaps they do want such a company, but don't notice the guidelines? ;)

Yeah, I agree with that about fangirls, but when this kind of people submit their works, the pieces are usually sketches/unfinished/quick doodles, and thus we can decline them according to the submission guidelines. Sorry, life is tough, no exceptions.
I think it is the laziness in most cases.

Anyway, I put the translations of the folder names to the left of the gallery, so you won't have to look for them ;)

Quick off-topic:
I wonder, how come these "fangirls" read Silmarillion? It's a long book written in archaic language, and with no film adaptation... And they did not get bored with that? ;) I bet they are not that keen on authors like Dumas, who did not put into their texts so many odd-sounding names and places, and had much more dialogues.

They've only red fan fiction and gossiped about fav characters with other fans ;)

Well, I guess most of those fangirls never really read it... just those chapters where something romantic is described... (imagine, I knew one young lady, who considered herself an expert in Tolkien and elves especially yet, she could hardly remember who Finrod was and did not know a thing about his famous song duel with Sauron... =()
I guess Dumas is just not so popular these days, so they all jump on Tolkien @_@

Another off-topic:
Do you accept something (fics or pictures) with characters from Silm but in the time after the I & II Ages?

That's... not an easy question. Definitely not, if:
:bulletwhite: it's something illustrating events from LotR, happening in the Third Age (even things like the wedding of Celebrian and Elrond or the Witch-King attacking Arnor, that happened before the main stream of LotR events, and are background to them) Nazguls themselves are fine - they appeared in the Second Age, and Celebrian on her own is fine - she was most probably born earlier.
:bulletwhite: Istari - the Wizards - were sent to the Middle-earth in the Third Age, sorry. Unless it's one of them with Manwe, in Valinor or something...

We may consider accepting it, if:
:bulletwhite: it's happening in the Third Age, but relates strictly to the Elder Days, e.g. "An Old Story" by Hemhet [link] is Elrond teaching about Earendil. All works of that kind got to the Exar folder.
:bulletwhite: it is not set in time and space - Galadriel using water mirror, for example, is known for doing it in LotR, but surely she used to do it before that, and as long as it is not said, on what occasion exactly she uses it, it's fine. Same with elves sailing into the west, or Palantiri, or a general view of Rivendell - it could possibly happen in the Second Age, as a long as time is not set.
:bulletwhite: if it's something with moving Silm events into modern times, we may consider it.

Any other possibilities...? (I hope not, I was checking all these examples for way too long)

maybe you should start declining deviations submitted to the wrong folder?

Yeah, maybe... I think asking them to resubmit their works to the correct folder (as Lirulin-yirth suggested) may eventually teach them a lesson.
