I'm back, I hope...

Tue Dec 23, 2014, 9:25 AM
Well! It has been rather a long while.

This is what happened:
I moved houses, organised it badly, and took much more time than would strictly speaking have been necessary, to settle into my new flat. The combination of moving, 8 hours a week of art school, my job, and lack of an internet connection on my desktop computer made me all but disappear of th'Interwebs.

However - as of yesterday morning, I do have an internet connection on my computer, my scanner has been delivered, and who knows, things might slowly get back to normal. Let's try this...

Scary Godmother doll on Kickstarter

Thu Aug 22, 2013, 9:50 AM
Jill Thompson is looking for people who will back her project of making a jointed Scary Godmother doll.

Do you like Jill's work? Do you love Scary Godmother? Are you just fond of dolls?
(Obviously, all three go for me, so I have jumped on the bandwagon as soon as I heard of this project's existence...)

You would make 755 people (and counting) happy by contributing, if you have some monies to spare :).

You can always help us by spreading the word! Please share the project and support Jill! She's fab!

Valentine's Day: Claim Your Couple :)

Thu Feb 14, 2013, 12:57 PM
I'm giving away artist trading cards on my blog on the occasion of Valentine's Day :D.

If you follow me on dA, you may be aware that I am working on a comic about Sir Gawain, the "Ladies' Knight", so even though I am not a fan of Valentine's Day, I couldn't just let it pass... If it turns out that people like these cards, I may make more to give away on special occasions.

The comic itself is still in the sketch stage, which is why I post it on Dreamwidth/Livejournal and not on dA. I am thinking about posting the sketches on, a Wordpress blog with Comicpress, which would make it easier to read fluently.

Download Question for Watchers

Tue Jan 15, 2013, 2:14 PM
Dear watchers,

When I post fan art, I leave the "Download" option checked. I see that some people do take advantage of that and download my pictures. So my question is:

What do you do with fanart you have downloaded?

Are you on the lookout for that download button - that is, does it bother you when I uncheck it?

...Just curiosity on my part. Thanks in advance for your replies! :D

Doll quiz

Wed Mar 7, 2012, 9:42 AM
...Since I don't have a scanner at this moment, I might as well while the time away by doing a dollie meme nicked from lulufae. I have more dollie photos to post, actually, but since nobody likes them I'm a bit reluctant to spam you with them :(.

Who was your first doll? Do you still own him, her, or it?
Gwalchmei (little Gawain). Of course I still own him! He's only been with me for eight months or something. I'm a recent convert to BJDs. But I don't think Gwalchmei is leaving me ever.

Who is your favorite doll?
Hm. I really love them all very, very much... But I suppose Gwalchmei will always have that little something extra, because he's my first and my cutest :P.

Which doll do you hope or plan to buy next?
It's either going to be Lady Ragnell or Lady Kundry. Kundry will (if all goes well) be ordered around Christmas, so depending on my dollie hunger, Ragnell will come before or after. In fact, I've decided to wait for events to get both of them...

Quick! You've instantly got $800 and must choose a doll to spend it on right now or it's gone forever! Who do you pick?
Well maybe I'd stop waiting for events and get Ragnell and Kundry right away... :D

Quick! You've instantly got enough money for any one and must choose a doll to spend it on right now or it's gone forever, but this time you have to buy the doll for someone else! Who gets the dolly, and what do you get them?
That's easy. None of my non-dollie friends like dolls, except AlcinavomSteinsberg. I'd get her a doll to be customised to look like Snape XD.

Are you currently waiting on any dolls, heads, or bodies?
Yep: Florie's head has arrived yesterday, but her body is still underway.

Who's your most expensive doll at the time you purchased them, not counting items you bought separately for them?
Gawain. His head was more expensive than anyone else's :).

Who's the least expensive doll you own?
Ladybird. She's a tiny, so she cost quite a bit less than my tall dolls.

Is there a limit to what you'd spend on a doll?
DEFINITELY. I'm waiting for a Christmas event because I just don't want to pay Kundry's full price. It's too much. I guess that makes my limit much lower than that of many other doll enthusiasts...

Which doll did you wait for the longest for so far?
I haven't experienced any outrageous waiting times so far. The longest wait was probably for Gawain's body, and that was a little over two months.

Which doll had the shortest wait so far?
Ladybird, because she was in stock :). She arrived within the week, which was kind of fun!

Who's the biggest doll you own?
Morgana. She's a bit taller than the 65 cm advertised. Gawain, on the other hand, is a bit shorter than the 65 cm advertised XD...

Who's the smallest doll you own?
Ladybird, who is only 16 cm tall. She handles very differently from Morgana and Gawain, I can tell you.

Got any floating heads? If yes, how likely are they to receive bodies anytime soon?
Well, there is Florie, whose body is on the way and *could* arrive next week, depending on how long customs intend to keep it. I also have a practice head, which isn't going to receive a body ever - it's really not a type of head I like :P.

Got any floating bodies?
No, and actually I can't imagine ever having one. It seems strange to me to buy a body and then look for a head that fits it... But I guess that's just me.

Do you have any extra, unclaimed pairs of eyes? How many if so?
I have two pairs of acrylic eyes that came as default with Gwalchmei and Morgana, but I don't like acrylic eyes and am not likely ever to use them for anyone. There are also two pairs of unused glass eyes in the house - they are waiting for Kundry and Ragnell. (I certainly hope they fit!)

Do you have any extra, unclaimed wigs? How many if so?
None of the wigs are unclaimed, but there's one that I regret buying. Also, Gwalchmei, Gawain and Morgana have three wigs each . So far, I have foreseen "only" one each for Florie, Kundry and Ragnell...

Anything you've said "never" to in the hobby that you later gave in to?
I said I'd never get a tiny, but then I saw Ladybird. Also, I said I'd stop at three, maybe four, but in the meantime I have five, with two more planned... D:

Do you own dolls that aren't BJDs?
I still have all my Barbies and Lady Lovely Locks dolls, as well as my baby doll. They are stocked away somewhere though; not sure if they count.

What was your last doll-related purchase?
Wigs for Florie and Ragnell.

What do you expect your next doll-related purchase to be?
Eyelashes, and Kundry's wig. (That's right, I'm getting the wig before the doll has even been ordered. I didn't have a wig ready for Florie and I feel just terrible about that -_-.)

What was the last doll-related thing to arrive to you by mail?
Florie! Well, her head anyway.

What was the last doll-related thing you purchased in person?
A mask against dust and gas, and a hot glue gun.

Not counting floating heads, floating bodies, and anything on layaway (paid off dolls count), how many complete dolls do you own?

The quiz is over! Any last words?
Looking forward to dry weather on Sunday, so that I can do Florie's face-up!

I unexpectedly find myself with extra time on my hands, so I thought I might offer to do commissions, if anyone is interested.

I will draw knights, historical characters, original characters and fanart. If you want me to draw one of your own characters (or characters from a fandom I don't know), please provide me with enough reference.

I will not draw realistic portraits or actors (I'm just not good at those).

Series/fandoms/comics/characters I am familiar with include:
Harry Potter, Hellboy, Blade of the Immortal, Avatar: The Last Airbender, ElfQuest, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, XXX-Holic, Chobits, Vagabond, Fables, Batwoman (Kate Kane), Catwoman, Wolverine, Thor...

Please note my Special Snape Rule: I won't prettify Snape or make him look like Alan Rickman. Also, I won't draw Snape in the nude. Just saying. You know he'd crawl out of my Potter books at night and strangle me if I broke that rule.

Have a look at my gallery to see what kinds of things I can do. I like a challenge, but I have my weak points (which I think are pretty obvious). Please don't ask me to draw a tavern brawl, a naval battle or the interior of a cathedral. I mean, you can ask, but I know my limits and I do want to make you something good.

You can choose between inks, watercolours, colour pencils, charcoal and pencils, if you have a preference. I use high-quality materials and heavy paper.

Note me or send me an e-mail at severelysigune at yahoo dot co dot uk if you would like to commission me. Once we are agreed on the contents, technique and price, I will start on the pencils for your drawing. Those will be sent to you, at which point you can request changes. Once you have approved the pencils, I will ask you to pay me and I will start work on the final version of your picture.

Please bear in mind that I work with traditional media and cannot make any changes once I have started work on the definitive version of the picture.

The picture will be sent to you when I have received your money.

My standard price for an A4-sized drawing is €50 ($68) + shipping & handling (if you want the original). Depending on how complex a picture you want, the price may vary a bit.

I can also offer other sizes, from postcards to A3 - price to be discussed.

I accept bank transfers from people in the EU. You can also send the money through Paypal.

...Any takers? :)

Watercolour help?

Watercolour Question

For the first time ever, I have an empty watercolour pan :). So clearly, the colour I have been using most of all is Alizarin Crimson. That's because it's a lovely colour. Only - it's not very lightfast, and I am a little bit worried about that. Hence my question:

Do you restrict your use of Alizarin Crimson because it's not lightfast?

If so, do you substitute it with some other red? Which one?

Or do you get round the problem any other way?

Suggestions are welcome :)...

Kiriban: 30,000!

30,000 Kiriban

I have been kind of absent for a while, but I'm still alive :). And I can still draw. Really.

Since we're nearing pageview number 30,000, I'm offering a gift picture (scan) to the 30,000th viewer of my dA homepage.

The rules:

Prove that you are the Chosen One by providing me with a screenshot of your lucky number 30,000.
If number 30,000 doesn't claim their picture, the viewer closest to them gets to claim one. Just leave me a message somewhere on my page, or send me an e-mail at severelysigune at yahoo dot co dot uk.

I'll do my best and draw a subject of your choice, provided I think I can handle it.
I don't draw subjects of a so-called 'adult nature' - I don't go any further than PG-13. Also, NO nekkid Snape. Not ever.

Good luck! :D

I don't like to be negative about changes, because I know it always takes some time to adjust to things, but - no, I don't like what the new layout does to the default view of my pictures. Supposedly v7 is meant to showcase your art better, but look what it does to my clean lineart! The pictures look all pixellated. They are far too small to look good :cries:. This is not funny. I don't know how they look on a larger screen, but my screen is a regular one and it's a sorry sight. I mean, look at this!

Seriously, dA. We are not amused.

Help please?

I am trying to figure out what technique to use for my Gawain comic (you can find fragments of the storyboard in my gallery). It would be nice to have colour, but I'm not good enough at watercolour or digital colouring to be able to undertake colouring an entire comic that way. Now I'm thinking that maybe I could pencil the comic (no inks) and colour it with colour pencils. I have posted a small experiment and would very much appreciate your opinion.

Colour test by Sigune

Do you think it would be nice to have a completely pencilled comic? How about colour versus greyscale? Or do you think inking is preferable? How do you think pencilled art will reproduce/print?

Opinions and advice are very, very welcome. Please do let me know what you think!

My comic, and watercolours

I have finished the storyboard of the first part of my Gawain saga! The Darkest Hour tells the story of Ygraine, mother of Morgause, Morgana the Fay and King Arthur in 119 pages. Although it is only a storyboard, I have tried to make it pretty enough to be a nice read.

I threw a lot at you yesterday, didn't I? Sorry about that :). It has been a while since I have done any polished pictures; all I had was a heap of sketches. But I do like a number of them, and it doesn't seem wrong to post them to give you an idea of what I've been up to these days.

Most of my art-y time is still spent on my Gawain comic (which you can read <a href=">here and/or here). Apart from that, I have also created several pieces for the celebration of Snape's 50th birthday on January 9 ;), but obviously they can't be revealed until then...

I hope to be posting more regularly again in the near future. I have missed dA!

I haven't updated for ages, or even uploaded any art for a while. That doesn't mean I'm not drawing anything! In fact, I'm posting a comic at LJ, an Arthurian project of which the first instalment has just reached 40 pages - and I'm still going on. I have been considering posting the story here too, but I haven't done so so far because it's not a finished comic. It's a storyboard; the art is very sketchy.

But it's true: I haven't done any fully-flown drawings or paintings recently. The comic, because it's "just" a storyboard, I can draw on the train. Serious pictures take a desk and such in order to look decent, or so they do for me :). That's why I really have to make time for them, which is not always easy. But hey, today I have a day off (it's our national holiday), so let's see what I can do...

The judges liked my Gawain and Ragnell picture :). It makes me extra happy because I am working on a comics project with Gawain as the main character. I haven't posted any of it here yet because I am storyboarding and not yet making any finished, polished pages. And because I am reduced to drawing on the (shaking) train, I haven't done any single Gawain pictures since the Ragnell one.

The next picture you may expect to see here is the first of :iconalcinavomsteinsberg:'s commissions. I'm not saying anything more, except that Snape is in it :).
