Estellia - Lieutenant Wolf by ShonnaWhite Estellia - Lieutenant Wolf by ShonnaWhite

Vampire Hunter Lieutenant Estellia Highlander – Never Defeated

Triggered by exposure to the blood of a Paragon, the genetic anomaly that Wolf harbors allows her to manifest vampiric abilities. Though she is respected for her skills and is well liked, the condition is thought of harshly by most of the soldiers in the Alley. Standing above her traumatic past, she refuses to allow anyone to ever get the best of her. Personal weakness is abhorrent, and she’ll never again be put in the position where someone needs to suffer to protect her. In her strength she finds promise for the future and no one will strip her of that. With what time she has, she will do as much good as she can, and will use her abilities protect those she loves.

Lost Infernal Banner by ShonnaWhite

Having brushed her tragic past behind a twisted sense of humor, Lieutenant Estellia Highlander lives to be the best. When a god-like vampire returns fifty years after nearly destroying the Alley, the military division she works for orders Estellia to assassinate him. Their hopes to prevent another war lies within the powerful mutation she carries that makes her more like the target she hunts than to humans. Her mission takes her deep into vampire society where she discovers that something far more sinister than the Paragon vampire Michael Bayne is emerging. If she and Michael cannot work together to defeat the rising darkness, humanity could be lost.

See, that would be telling. ;) Best I can say without destroying one of the plot threads is that this is not a love story but I do have an aspect of it in there.

Thank you very much!
Something like 60 layers all in all. I collapse them down as soon as I'm fairly certain that I don't need them anymore. Working with lots of layers is annoying so I try to get rid of them as soon as possible.
But I also buy computers which have good processing power.

Well thank you!

I will be honest, these aren't entirely from scratch%just 95%ish.

I start with a bottom layer which is photo which I've heavily manipulated. I'll then start a new layer and begin to paint overtop.
Ultimately, I use the photo as a guide.
These turn out to be like 60 layers or something like that. They take a very very long time partially because I'm no photoshop expert and screw around with filters and tools until I get what I want.
The eyes themselves comprise of about 15 layers just in and of themselves. The softness is an artistic choice but I like keeping the eyes with more defined lines.
Though the most annoying parts are the ears and the lips!

For an example of how these start out, the face on this started out as Monica Bellucci!

I thought i was alone when i always had 50 layers in photoshop and randomly screwed with random paints and brushes with filters !

Hahaha! No, no you're not.

I've found that to get what I want, I have to use a lot of layers. I try to collapse layers down as soon as I know I'm not going to change it anymore. That and in a lot of cases, I have to.

So I will shamelessly, and proudly, say I need six billion layers to get an image like this. Doesn't help that I do all of this by mouse, or mouse track pad on my laptop. My friend who is a graphic artist by profession says that it's like drawing something with a rock.

One day, I will remember what all the bloody filters in Photoshop do however, and I won't waste so much time screwing around with them. :D

One day.

I used to own a Waccom tablet, a long long time ago, but then my husband lost the stylus on me and I have yet been able to convince myslef to buy a new one. They better I get on using a mouse, the less incentive I have. Buuuuuuut, I still want one.

Good work with being so successful with your commissions!
Art is never a bad thing, but school work is incredibly important. (I work for a non profit organization which focuses on education of students up to high school when I'm not doing my art ;) ) I won't get into the shpeel about why it's so important but yeah . . .
Find the balance that you can do both and you'll go far if your already experiencing success! :)

WHOA!! It's a woman! :omfg:

I like her -- and yet, feeling territorial for the sake of the other guys; never mind that you've already stated that this isn't a love story. This is ultimately a good thing, though -- means you're on the right track! :XD:

Her pupils...was that on purpose? Explain. :eager:

The pupils are just a shine factor that gives it that look. The eyes are the FIRST eyes I didn't do from scratch and were taken from a photo (and then colour adjusted) because I liked the look of them. I'm considering making some adjustments to get rid of the slitted look though. They are not slitted, it was just the reflections that made them look that way.

And yup! IT'S A WOMAN and the main character! This is who the story revolves around. I like this character and have gone through a really long process of making her a strong character who has seriously exploitable flaws. She is also a lot of fun to write, but also a lot of work.

Don't get me wrong, this might not be a love story but despite this story being fairly dark (especially after the extent of the plot is revealed), people do flirt and play on some of the more base instincts of others. That whole aspect of it however, is more of a spice then a main ingredient.

Awwwww...I was hoping that the slit was indicative of some hidden aspect to the character and her history... :sniff:

She looks fantastic, though! Another one I can't wait to see alongside everyone else. I always like seeing girls with just as much grit to them as the guys... :D

That's awesome -- I would much prefer seeing more of the detached, simplistic, spur-of-the moment but otherwise casual sparks than watching something slow-cook in such a way that it might blow up on you when you're not looking... :paranoid:

...Then again, I've had it happen where characters will go off and do their own thing and not tell me about it first! :ohmygod:

Oh yes, Estellia is gritty. Still, I try to write all appropriate characters with a good sense of humour. One of my favourite scenes with her has this in it:

“Good evening, Lieutenant.” Came a voice which sounded as if it was repeating itself. Casting a glance up she looked at Storm briefly, his demeanor had returned to the reticent chill she was used to him exuding.
“Hey.” She said around the toast, eyes immediately going back down to the computer. A quick hand came into view, snapping the small handheld device away from her and replacing it with a banana.
Arneau looked at her like an unimpressed parent before going to the fridge himself. “The report will be there when you finish breakfast.”
Looking at his back with pursed lips and a glare, Wolf bounced the banana off the back of his head. “Unless this banana is going to kill me a vampire, gimme the damned computer back.”
Tucking the machine in his back pocket, he retrieved the fruit and placed it down in front of her. “Proper nutrition is essential, especially if you want to fight evil today.”

Perfectly relatable! I love it!

Curiously, my grandma did that to me, once...shoving a banana in my face to make me eat it...I didn't dare say no... :paranoid:
