Mon Calamari Shipyards MC85 Command Cruiser by Shoguneagle Mon Calamari Shipyards MC85 Command Cruiser by Shoguneagle
Two years prior to the climactic Battle of Endor, the Republic Navy knew that it was in dire straits with the Dominion’s fielding of the Absolute-class star dreadnaughts and the Imperator-II star destroyers, two classes perfectly capable of matching its newly-constructed star defender designs, to outright dominating its older-serving Victory, Venator, and existing Mon Calamari vessels. With the Mon Cala, Rendili, and Corellian shipyards operating at maximum capacity, the Republic could not afford to divert so many slips to constructing star dreadnaughts of their own. Instead, they decided to build a smaller, yet fully-capable command ship that could operate as the centerpiece of its fleets, and coordinate strategic and tactical efforts with other command ships. Thus, the MC85 was born.

Constructed to incorporate crews of various species, the MC85 boasts the latest of command and control suites, with easily-modified crew consoles that can accommodate each bridge station member’s personal control preferences. It can also operate as both a heavily-armed battleship and dedicated starfighter projection platform, armed with numerous anti-capital ship weapon emplacements, along with several hangars that can store, maintain, and field twelve squadrons of starfighters. The MC85’s strong hull and heavy shielding (supplemented by the renowned Mon Calamari back-up shield generators) ensures that it can sustain a substantial amount of weapons fire from enemy vessels while dishing out its own punishment.

The MC85 line serves admirably in the Battle of Endor, where the command ships Home One, Defiance, and Independence all resist the combined forces of two Death Stars and Executor Tarkin’s personal Terror Fleet, which concludes in a bloody, yet decisive victory for the Republic. The MC85 continues to operate well into the establishment of the Great Galactic Republic and the return of Supreme Commander Thrawn and his Empire of the Hand

I like this design, it looks perfectly at home with the rest of the MC-Series of starcruiser and seems fairly well armed for a vessel from Star Wars, though it's size makes it seem just a bit undergunned to be honest. That is, admittedly, my general consensus with most Star Wars warships since I don't think that 60 Turbolaser on a mile long Star Destroyer are nearly enough for it's reputation. Considering the size of the main batteries around the bridge tower, which are the largest and most visible of it's weapons, there should be room for way more.
This ship is similar in that it is about twice the size but has roughly twice the guns as well despite having way more surface area to put cannons onto the hull than are given.
Despite this the design itself is really good and it looks like a cousin of the classical wingshaped MC-80B Liberty-type cruisers.

This is a rather interesting design. It's a very logical expansion of the existing designs and their limitations in much the same way that the original MC80B was and one can easily see the transitory period between the MC80 and MC90 reflected in the MC85 design.

All in all I'd say that this is a wonderful expansion of the material and fits nicely in with other designs of a similar origin. It expands the original idea of the ship and fills a niche that was largely devoid in the MCC design lineage until much later on in the design history.

As always the artist's work is quite spectacular in its execution and delivery.

Love the design of these cruisers!

I feel like this ship is larger than the radius in the last Jedi, maybe this could be an mc90

I like how the surface of ships like these stand in stark contrast to Star Destroyers. Star destroyers have a blocky/jagged shape in my mind, like blocks are stacked on top of each other, whereas at least Mon Calamari vessels (and maybe there are others besides them?) have a very smooth surface. My compliments on the details of all your ships and those of your colleagues/collaborators or what they are called. Keep up the good work!

Just found this one and I love the fact you're using D6 stats more than the ship itself.

Definitively better then the sorry excuse for a MC line ship that appeared in TLJ. Beautiful design.

I thought the Raddus looked neat in its own right. But boy did they nerf the hell of it! For a vessel over 3 km long, it only had a little over three dozen weapons emplacements, according to TLJ Cross-Sections book. Makes no sense... unless the New Republic wanted to be destroyed.

The Ship looked cool, sure. But it sure as heck was no improvement over the ROTJ MC80 lines. Not even close. I guess it falls in line with the demilitarization of the republic (which is moronic in its own right), but it doesn't make any sense to me to depower your capital ships as well. with ships like this, I don't understand why the FO needed starkiller base, the ships they had would have been more than sufficient.
Shoguneagle Featured By Owner Feb 9, 2018
That's what I assumed as well, that the whole demilitarization act nerfed the New Republic completely, and the Raddus was a consequence. Like I mentioned prior, the supplemental material contradicts what we see in Episodes VII and VIII, so unless IX reveals the remnants of the Starfleet, it really won't make sense.

I completely agree. Also, I hate what they ave done in the New canon. After watching the failure of the Old Republic, you'd think the New Republic wouldn't be so quick to give up arms. To me it doesn't make sense. At bare minimum, make the new MC-85 be a dedicated fleet carrier, with more fighters than a Venator I. I really am not a fan of the decisions made with some of this new canon material.

The Resistance's ship in Last Jedi is called the MC 85 and is about the same size of this (less than 200m shorter), but seems woefully under gunner, not just compared to this, but even the MC 80s, which is strange, given how insanely overpowered the Resurgent's weapons loadout is.

Maybe they should can the digbats who are doing the ship designs for the new movies and hire you, instead. Maybe then we'd get some decent variety.

Yeah, I read its specifications from TLJ Cross-Sections book. It's little wonder the New Republic was destroyed; none of their ships have any adequate firepower.

Someone should've hired Adam a long time ago. He could create all of the ships of a new trilogy by himself.
