Corellian Engineering Corporation ARoT-38

As the Galactic Republic entered its decline, not even the royal families of its more monarchic member worlds, nor its own elected officials, were immune from the consequences. Spacejackers, pirates, kidnappers, and terrorists pried the spacelanes, preying upon dignitary transports that were often unarmed and unescorted. Seven years prior to the onset of the Clone Wars, Viceroy (and later elected Senator) Bail Organa himself was captured by nationalists via spacejacking, an incident that was ultimately resolved by intervention of the Jedi Knights. While being a devoted pacifist, Bail recognized the need to protect Alderaan’s royalty and Republic Senate representation by commissioning the Corellian Engineering Corporation to design and construct a limited-production run of armed transports that would fill this role. The designated Alderaan Royal Transport-38, or ARoT-38, was born.

 

Decently-armored coupled with excellent deflector shielding, the “38” was additionally equipped with two double fire-linked laser cannons and two twin light ion cannons. It also boasted a sub-light speed equivalent to most starfighters of the era, and a class-one hyperdrive to effectively evade and escape hostiles. And while well-armed and durable, the “38” was also spacious and customizable. Luxury quarters for the designated dignitary, a climate-controlled mediation/relaxation room, a fully-stocked mess hall, and adjustable cargo bays were just a few of the options provided, each based upon the needs and desires of the respective Alderaanian noble houses.

 

Only a few dozen of these craft were built, sold, and fielded. It is unknown how many, if any, ever escaped Alderaan’s destruction at the hands of the Galactic Empire.
