Description
Limitless shipping in an airborne world.
This is the TEV Vance-Lapin. She measures 551 feet from bow to stern, and takes her name from Phyllis Lapin of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s Scranton branch and Bob Vance, the owner and namesake of Vance Refrigeration. The pair were married on April 8th, 2007, a conclusion I came to using the following deductions:
- We know that the episode “Phyllis’ Wedding” takes place at some point in April.
- In “Ben Franklin,” Michael mentions that “We are six days away from Phyllis’ wedding.” As the wedding takes place on a weekend, this episode could only have taken place on a Monday, while “Phyllis’ Wedding” on a Sunday.
- The events of “The Negotiation” also take place in April, and by extension, so would “Business School” and “Cocktails.” This would place the events of “Phyllis’ Wedding” relatively early in the month.
- In 2007, April 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th were Sundays. If Phyllis and Bob’s wedding was on April Fool’s Day, Michael surely would have brought it up.
The Vance-Lapin takes various design cues from the MV Romanza, a Greek cruise ship converted from an Italian immigrant liner that was in turn a converted German cargo vessel built in 1938. The Romanza’s career with the Chandris Line began 1970, and this happy career continued until she was gutted by a massive fire in 1997. The ship was a total loss.
