It's mid-January already but I suppose it's not too late to greet everyone a Happy New Year! It's been a funs start for me so far and from the looks of things, this year is set to be more hectic and more fun than last year was.

To all the people from Perth, just letting you guys know that I will be coming over there for Wai-Con! I've wanted to go there since the very first year it was held but the fact that it happened around this time of the year meant that I was often too broke from the Christmas spendings to contemplate the trip. I'm still broke but at least the plane tickets weren't too expensive. Wai-Con's always had a special place in my heart for being the first convention that I've ever won an AMV award from; I remember sitting around till the wee hours of the morning stalking the forums and hoping for someone to make an announcement online, screaming silently when someone finally broke the news (didn't want to wake up the house). I think if I never got this shot of confidence from winning I probably wouldn't have been as involved or successful in this hobby as I'd become down the years. Since then I've made some friends on that side of the country that I would dearly love to visit so I'm actually quite excited about this.

Then in March, I'm more or less guaranteed to attend the Adelaide Oz Comicon. Richard Dean Anderson is appearing as a guest and there's no way in hell that I was going to let this opportunity to get an autograph pass. I was under the impression that he has pretty much left the public scene and that I was never going to be able to finish my Stargate SG1 collection. Yeah… this is awesome.

Around the middle of the year, I'm very hopeful of attending WCS championship to support cielroses and k-tetsu. This will probably mean that I miss out on SMASH this year since that occurs pretty much the weekend after it but I guess I'll just have to make do with being in Japan instead!

So yes, it's a year that seems to become dominated but yet again more travelling. It's set to keep me busy with photography too so hopefully I'll be releasing some personal projects soon!

It's been a while since I've blogged something so here's something about our Legend of Korra shoot. It's definitely been one of my more exciting shoots; always good to get out of the usual comfort zones.

The convention season is well and truly over for me for the year. I had intended on attending Brisnova for the Madman finals but alas, commitments to friends had to take precedence. It's been a fairly low key year for me if I'm to compare it to last year. I guess you can say I'm fairly happy it's turned out this way as I really needed time to recover; besides muscles turning soft the doctors have given me a passing marks for my health. Challenge is in maintaining it.

That said, I do miss the hectic lifestyle of doing one shoot after another practically every weekend. As summer fast approaches I do think I may be returning to that type of lifestyle sooner than I am prepared for and I foresee next year to go back to being busy once again. Endless cycle!

It's hard to believe that more than half the year has passed already and just as unbelievable that SMASH was almost a month ago now. I've processed most of the shoots before and during that weekend (just need to do kaorimint's GIF of the Harry Potter shoot we did) so I'm now in the process of doing some major back up. I've been very behind with backing up all my work and clearing all my drives of my work files and it's been preventing me from doing some other projects that I've put on the back burner for a while.

One of these upcoming projects will involve some fire manipulation. I did some experiments over the weekend and researched quite a bit as to the safest method to do these effects and I think I've come to a solution that is good enough. Fire will always be a dangerous thing to meddle with but we just have to make sure we are using good common sense.

Fire Breathing

I also want to release my video compilation of the cosplay shoots I've done since the last one. Unfortunately (or fortunately, whichever way you want to look at it) quite a number of shoots have occurred that in the end I may have to actually split this into 2 videos, else it will not fit into a standard 3-4 minute long song. I know I've been saying this repeatedly as well, but I still want to get this Rolling Girl video done eventually and the sooner I get everything else cleared, the sooner I can concentrate on it.

To borrow most everyone's journal introductions these days, I just have to say it's been too long since I last wrote here. In fact it's probably a while since I've properly written more than a tweet or status update for quite some time in any of the usual places I write in. I do love writing but it's an exercise that involves a lot of time which is currently a premium for me.

Anyway, in tune with being very busy, I'm also preparing to go to SMASH in 10 days time! I'll be hosting the AMV panel at 4PM where I'll be showing awesome videos to get people inspired into making AMVs. From 11AM, I am also rostered to be in the photo booth for a couple of hours so if you want to get your photo taken in a professional studio set up, come visit us. There will be other awesome photographers there during the day too so you don't just have to come during my timeslot :P Hope to see familiar faces there over the weekend!

Spent last weekend at Oz Comic-Con. It was an interesting experience for which I'm writing the Anime News Network AU report for. Hoping to get that done in the next couple of days... yeah, I'm not sure yet how to present this one. Besides that, at this point I'm most likely going to be attending Manifest this year too seeing as how my editor-in-chief won't be coming so there won't be an ANN|AU representative if I don't turn up.

Damn, I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by, moreso than usual to be honest. It's always when you are trying to hold on to something, when you're hoping time would slow down a little so you can catch up that this happens. Must not waste my time.

Hurray! I've finally finished putting together my 2011 favourite photo compilation!

This took me longer than I would have liked to but given how many photos I had to sort through, I pretty much expected it was going to take time. I won't explain much more otherwise I'll just be repeating what I said on my website's blog. Click below to see!

2011 was a good year :D
